BACON-GALLUP by Jack Tyne 1 June 1990 ------------------------------------------------ My wife was a BACON and she has done all the work of tracing back to Solomon BACON and Rebecca GALLUP. Family tradition says that Solomon and Rebecca's son Ansel(1801) was one of a large family of boys whose parents died young. There is some evidence of a son John but nothing further. If tradition is correct there certainly could have been a son Solomon having a son Solomon, etc. Also there could have been some guardians involved for the orphaned boys but we have no positive evidence of that. There is a BACON FAMILIES ASSOCIATION that publishes a quarterly newsletter. Write to Editor Miss Diane E. May, 7764 Euclid Way,Springfield,VA 22153. The ages are suitable for the older man to be the Solomon I am looking for. I tried to get further information from the 1850 census but I could not find any trace of this family as far as I have looked. I expect to go back to the library and search farther in the 1850 census but wondered if this might be the Solomon you are interested in that was born in NY. Maybe the reason I cant find him is that he did go west somewhere. Maybe this is a lead to something! Any comments? Incidentally, he was located in the Town of Hamilton and the County of Madison, New York State. Also, the BACON newsletter index shows a number of Alberts but the info is all from Vital Records in Vermont. --- * Origin: SOURCE OF MAGIC Northeast Roots HST 203-431-4687 (Opus 1:141/725)
