Who we are

We are a group of quilters who are connected with others quilters.  Our aim is to teach each other new and old techniques.  We like to show what we have done and what we can do.

We meet on the second Monday of every month from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Our year runs from September to August. The club fee is $20.00 per year.

Papers handed out & Main Order of Business

·         Pictures: We took a couple group pictures which will be on the Club poster board in the shop. 

·         Survey Results: We passed out results of the survey taken the first meeting. 

·         Name Plates: Everyone was given a name plate to be used at meetings.  You can either keep the name plate in your notebook or your file. 

·         Saturday Sew-In: The first Saturday Sew-in is scheduled for November 3.  Eleven people have signed up for it.  Three people will be coming later in the day.  Times for the sew-in are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.?  A possible pot luck was discussed, but nothing settled. 

·         New Members: Betsy Erickson and Betsy Pisczor

·         Member List attached in email.

 

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

September Birthdays are Sharon Kvitek and Betsy Pisczor. 

October Birthdays are Lori Fleming and Mary Pat Van Schyndel

Club Exclusive Kits

There are 2 Club Exclusive kits available.

·         Christmas Coasters for $10 which can be made into coasters for any season or just to match your decor. 

·         Christmas Placemats using strips for $7. 

 

 

Kits for Points

A project completion sheet will be kept by Mary Beth & Toni. Points will be awarded for various things throughout the year, such as completing one of the club exclusive kits. After a certain number of points are accumulated, prizes will be awarded at the end of the year.

 

Also if you bring in a completed kit, then you will receive a certificate for 10% off your next kit. Only 1 certificate can be redeemed per kit, though. And these can only be used for Club Exclusive kits.

 

·         Bring in completed Binder Cover made with your own materials & get 1 point. Use Quilter’s Connection fabric and get 2 points.

·         Bring in a homemade Halloween bag next month, get 1 point.

·         Bring in the Halloween Pillow kit, get 2 points PLUS a certificate for 10% off one  club exclusive kit purchased.

·         Bring in the Halloween bag from Toni’s kit, get 2 points PLUS a certificate for 10% off one  club exclusive kit purchased.

Demo

Toni showed how to make a log cabin nine patch.  (Dark on one side and light on the other - cut at an angle from top right to bottom left) 

She explained how she used the scraps from previous quilts, but we also suggested using the strips we had everyone bring to this meeting. 

 

Show & Tell

Halloween Bags made & shown by:  Leota, Mary Ann Schley, Carol, Mary Pat, Jill, Roxy, Karen Starnes, Toni & Mary Beth, Ruth Anne, Cindy, Sharon K (even though she is in Germany) and Birgit.  Note Books were made and shown by Leota Hogan, Mary Ann Schley, Cindy Fezatte and Sharon Kvitek.  Additional projects were shown by:  Carol Wellens made two wall hangings from fat quarters she won in one of our dice games.  Mary Pat showed 2 quilts made at the International mystery club and a 2 small wall hanging and 2 large wall hangings.  Betsy Erickson showed her Prairie Queen, which was made as a result of a class through her guild.  Toni brought several Halloween cases she made as a Christmas gifts.  Mary Beth showed her Washington Island quilt,  block of the month thangles quilt, prairie queen quilt, and a friendship quilt she made from a block exchange.

FUN:

After show and tell and before the dice game we went trick or treating using our strips of fabric.  Everyone loved it.  We also had our treat then. 

 

The LCR dice game was won by Lori Fleming.  She had a terrible time deciding what the fabric should be next month, but finally decided on Snowman fabric.   

 

FOOD:

Next Month:

Mary Pat, Carol Wellens and Betsy Pisczor will bring the treats.

We were also given 20% off of Halloween Fabric in honor of Halloween.  We showed a couple of the store Halloween quilts.

Tip of the Month
 

Your rotary cutter can be changed to accommodate a left handed person.  Most right handed people didn't know that.   Toni demonstrated the best way to stand when cutting.  Toni also showed how she organized her project scraps.  Her demo included the use of these scraps.
