Birth Name: Paul Reubenfeld
Birthdate: August 27, 1952
Birthplace: Peekskill, New York
Father: Milton, owned a car dealership and, later, a lighting store
Mother: Judy, an elementary school teacher
Eldest of 3 children: 2 boys, 1 girl
Favorite Childhood TV shows: Captain Kangaroo, The Mickey Mouse Club, I Love Lucy, and Howdy Doody (Paul once appeared on Howdy Doody as part of the studio audience, the peanut gallery)
1961: The Reubenfelds moved to Sarasota, Florida: Winter headquarters for the Ringling Brothers Circus. His neigbors included The Great Wallendas, the famous family of high-wire artist, another family that shot each other out of cannons, and the Doll Family.

Paul moved to Southern California in the late 70's to attend California Institute of the Arts. He was an acting major
Somewhere in this time period, he changed his name to Paul Reubens, because he favored it as a stage name
In 1977, joined The Groundlings, a Los Angeles improvisational group that has, over the years, produced many of todays top comedians (Phil Hartman, Lisa Kudrow, John Lovitz, Julia Sweeny and alot more, many of whom went on to Saturday Night Live)
Pee-wee Herman is Born in 1978 at The Groundlings. Paul says the original concept was that Pee-Wee was supossed to be "a relly bad comic, someone you would look at and go, 'This guy's never going to make it'."
Another memorable character created at the groundlings was Cheif Jay Longtoe, a native american lounge singer who drank and danced on toe in big white sneakers.
In 1980, auditioned for Saturday Night Live, but lost out to Gilbert Godfried for the "nutty, dorky guy" slot. SNL went on to one its most disasterously un-funny seasons ever.
In 1982, The Pee-wee Herman Show, a play centered around Pee-Wee's desire to learn to fly (after Pterri tell's him, "It has to be one of the greatest things in the world, next to shaving") and a budding romance between Miss Yvonne and Kap'n'Karl (played, even then as it was in Pee-wee's Playhouse by Lynne Stewart and Phil Hartman), ran at the Roxy Theatre and was filmed for HBO
1985: Pee-wee's big adventure became a sleeper hit of the summer. This was Tim Burton's first fearure lenght film.
1988: Big Top Pee-wee
July 20, 1988: Pee-wee Herman is awarded a star on the hollywood walk of fame. The star reads "Pee-wee Herman", not "Paul Reubens". He attended the cerimony in character (as always at this point)and said, "everybody who I stepped on to get to the top can come down here everyday after this and step on me."
1986-91: Pee-wee's playhouse airs Saturday mornings on CBS. During its run it was nominated for Emmys 59 times!!!

Since 1991, he has, thankfully, been slowly but surely been creeping back into our lives, shinning his talent upon us :) First in small parts, and now back into the spotlight!
