(WOA) Tour of Prevention Strategies!
SYSTEMS PERSPECTIVE.
This tour of the prevention methods introduced in Unit 3 Addiction
Studies, are a fresh and interactive way to alter behaviour patterns.
The Systems Perspective identifies many of the interralated factors
which plauge individuals and society today. The focus will be on each
sector being singled out and understood. Sectors being; environmental,
family, employment and social contact to name only some.
Problems exist on several levels, and each of these levels and their
interconnectedness should be brought into research or problem
formulation. Comprehensivness is gained by expanding the inquiry. A broad
theoretical framework for organising cruicial information within all
sectors. The Systems approach to prevention can be used to understand
how sectors arrived at present states, and what sectors broke down
and why, and how various changes in the different sectors can be of use
to recovery! And especially minimize the harms associated with drug use.
Prevention Strategies;
#Introduction.
The value of the systems perspective is that it recognises that there are
many interrelated factors to a, in this case Vagrancy. The systems
denotes that no aspect of any behaviour is independent of the larger
context in which the problem occurs and can only be understood by
investigating all other interactions between different parts of the
sub-systems!

The benefits of the systems approach provides is a broad theoetical
framework for organising information and understanding the relationships
of the sub systems by way of interconnectedness of the parts!
In keeping with Wallack&Holders quote "Problems exist on several Levels,
and each of these levels and their interconnectedness should be brought
into research or problem formulation, these levels when sub-divided into
sectors can be examined and understanding gained into the troubled
area`s", in this case of the vagrant, Family, Social, work areas add to
to the list of areas for investegation.

The Systems approach emphasises synthesis, that is, the kind of thinking
that looks at events, problems and other things as functional parts of
a lager whole. Problematic drinkers and all its consequences are
considered to be a "part" of a system or a complex network of variables
that have an impact on one another.(Wallack,Holder,87.)
Comprehensiveness is gained by expanding the enquiry. A broad
.
theoretical framework for organising information about the different
sectors which consist of Social, economic and cultural forces all play
a part of the vagrant`s life style. By interconnecting these aspects
the vagrant can gain insight into the areas that failed him and why.
There are no single causes to the vagrants problems just as theres no
single solutions. The problems are multiple and varied and they
interrelate with a broad influence into a social, economic and political
structure.

As stated by Wallack & Holder"Our goal is to strieve for consistency
of purpose across all the levels on which the problems exist".
The extensive planning that goes into the systems approach is
significant. Long term goals are sought for the areas breaking down.
Conclusion.
The vagrant has now considered that his specific drug problems could
be caused by a variety of factors in "all sectors" of his life. By the
use of the systems perspective the vagrant can divide all areas of his
life into long-term achievable goals, he can examine all the
interactions between the parts of the system and come to realise even a
subtle change in one part of a system impacts on other parts and also
affects relationships between various systems. In learning this
concept the vagrant can deal correctly with his behavioural patterns
that failed him previously. More on the way!!!
