CRITTERS
The top photo is Cloudy.   She is a Birman... She looks just like  a long haired Siamese, but Siamese have a very different head shape.  The big clue is the "saddle".

She is quite well behaved and actually does respond to voice commands.  She certainly know what "NO" means, and it is about the funniest thing in the world when she is begging to go outside and I say NO.. she shoots down the basement stairs like a cannon ball!

Lt. Cmdr. Tasha Yar is my former partner's.  He isn't really a Treker, it just started about 4 cats before her that they happened to have names with were used on Star Trek: TNG, so he kept the theme with this one.  We just call her Tasha.  She  is a Russian Blue, complete with the faint rings around the tail which makes her a rare variant... and totally arrogant.  We also call her FB.. you can figure out what that means on your own.

GingerSnap is a Chow. .   I got her in January 2000 when she was just 6 weeks old.  Someone brought her into the library one day.  I meant to say "Get that animal out of the library!", but instead the words "I'll take her" came out of my mouth.  I still don't know how that happened, because truth be told, I don't really like dogs. I try not to dwell on it... I guess it was just meant to be.

Brian was none too happy with me when I called him from work and told him to come get OUR dog.  Not that he doesn't love her... it's just that we had been discussing getting a dog, and I made it clear that this house was just too small for a dog.  I was a nervous wreck for the last 3 hours of work wondering how everyone was getting on.   I tried to apologize. But saying "I'm sorry for making such an important decision without consulting the entire family, but we're keeping her," didn't sound too sincere. :)  I was sorry... but we did keep her.

On April 18th,  she had to have surgery.  Basically she had to have her right rear knee replaced.  The official term is TPLO: Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy... about $150 a syllable  She gets the stitches out on May 2, 2002, but the recovery period is actually 8 week.  we can only take her for 3, 5 minute walks a day and are  supposed to keep her leashed  or kenneled inside as well to prevent her from jumping and running... until JUNE 10, 2002!   It's difficult because she wants to play and doesn't understand what she's done or why she is being punished.

Gingersnap is doing fine as off June 9, 2002.  She is walking much better than she did before the surgery although she still favors the leg.  With the weird weather, I've also noticed a pattern.. when it's going to storm she won't use that leg at all.  So I guess she is now my official weather center. LOL  Poor dear!  She always loved taking pills before, and now she likes it even more.  She really recognizes the baby aspirin bottle.  The little druggie.  Not that I blame her, but people are always saying how hard it is to get their dogs to take pills.  Well, the fact is that when I take MY medication at home the sound gets her so excited that I have to give her a cranberry pill... and she acts like it's a treat!  What a weird dog!  Any wonder why I love her so much?
