If you don't know by now, I love hockey. Ever since I was a young, I would collect hockey cards, read hockey magazines and watch hockey games on TV like most Canadian kids. Unlike the those other kids from Canada, I live in Vancouver, which meant that it never got cold enough for us to skate outdoors or have our dads build backyard rinks to skate on. If you wanted to play hockey on ice, you had to pay for it. My parents did not want to pay. So when I was 18, I had enough money saved up (thanks McDonald's) to buy some hockey gear and a pair of rollerblades. Eventually, I became part of a roller-hockey team that lasted for 3 years (yay Jaguars) and finally went on to play pick-up hockey on ice, which I still do today. Nowadays, I play on Thursday nights from 10:45pm until around 12:20, yes it sucks to play late at night, but that's when the icetime is cheapest...you still have to pay to play... |
