Welcome to Congregation Beth El - Atereth Israel, a modern orthodox congregation whose members represent wide specturm of backgrounds and countries, with all ages represented. Although the majority of shul members are Ashkenazic, there is an active Sephardic community in the congregation, with Sephardic minyanim on Shabbat and chagim.
The hallmark of our synagogue family is the warm and haimish atmosphere.
Below is material outlining some of the programs sponsored by our congregation, and information about our synagogue and about the Newton/greater Boston Jewish community.
Youth Programs: Shabbat morning groups for infants- 4 years old, preK - 1st grade and 2nd grades - 4th grades all meet starting at 10 am.
Our youth minyan meets periodically throughout the year.
The Rae and Joseph Gann Preschool provides a warm and friendly learning experience for children ages 2 years 9 months and older. More information can be obtained by calling the school. Adult Education: Adult education spans the breadth of Jewish learning. For a detailed schedule of regular weekly and daily classes, please see the Schedule link.
Mishnah Yomi classes are ongoing. Daily learning with the Rabbi occurs after shachris. The Rabbi instructs men in the fundamentals of Judaism on Thursday mornings, and offers a women's study group late Thursday morning. A women's haftorah study class meets weekly. Special Shabbatons are held during the year with guest lecturers discussing various topics of Jewish life.
Social: Our Motzi Shabbas social program is well attended. Past programs have included Malave Malkes, a Shalom Hunan [local kosher Chinese restaurant] night, an Israeli cafe night, a games night and even a bowling night.
Membership: Membership dues and other fees are available from the shul office.
Local Establishments: Congregation Beth El Atereth Israel does not endorse or guarantee Kashruth of any food establishment.
