REPLACING YOUR DJEMBE HEAD PAGE 2

6. Pull aside top hoop and rope in preparation for wet skin.

7. Lay the wet goat skin over the top of the drum with the previously determined playing side of the drum facing you. The spine of the skin should be centered so both sides are equal and hands fall on either side of spine. The hair grain should face away from you and the front of the skin (neck and shoulder) is where hands will fall when playing. Make sure it is symetrical-this is crucial!

8. Add inside hoop (flesh hoop) making sure it is lined up with your marks.

9. Fold skin carefully over hoop being certain not to get it crooked.

10. Pull top hoop and rope carefully over skin while watching your marks. Try not to disturb the skins alignment.

11. Leave everything loose while you add the rest of the rope. Try not to work too slowly when using wet skin.
