THE CONGALESE WARRIORS
MODERN WARRIORS OF THE PAST
The purpose of our webpage is to educate the general public on the slave tradebefore, during, and after the Middle Passage.  We divided the project into four parts to accomplish this goal.  Each section was handled by one group member.  The first part of the project will focus upon Africa before the Transatlantic Slave Trade, with an emphasis on the Kongolese Empire.  We found information about what the social, political, and economic conditions were like before the slave trade and why the Kongo was so vulnerable to European slave traders.  The next area of study is the European aspect of the slave trade, including motives of the Europeans, and who was involved.  The third focus of is the actual Middle Passage, specifically the routes taken, conditions on the ship, and the way this journey affected the people who portrayed a role in it.  Finally, the last part of our study deals with the time after disembarkment of slaves off the slave ships.  We looked at both the initial disembarkment (where it took place and the events that occurred there), and what life was like for a slave once he or she was sold.
