EPPIES 2001 RULES

Every ebook published, regardless of publisher, between January 1, 2000 and November 30, 2000 may be entered in the Eppie-2001. Yes, this includes self-published and subsidy published. Yes, it can be previously published in paper. All that matters is that the book was published as an ebook in any genre, fiction or nonfiction, between January 1 and November 30, 2000.

How do you enter your ebook? First, print out and then fill out the entry form completely, including the category you are entering, sign the form , and send it, one (1) packaged copy of your ebook, and your entry fee to the contest coordinator at the address listed below. At the same time, send the contest coordinator a copy of your book in HTML format by e-mail attachment.

Yes, you can enter more than one book. Yes, you have to fill out a separate entry form for each entry. Until the coordinator receives one (1) copy of your book in its original packaging, the entry form, fee, and the HTML version by email attachment, your entry is not complete.

All entries must be received by the contest coordinator no later than November 30, 2000. All entries received after that date will be refused and returned to the sender.

All entry forms, fees and packaged copy must be sent via regular postal service. No UPS. No return reply requested. No certified mail. Except as noted above, no ebooks will be returned.

How much is the entry fee? $15 for EPIC members in good standing. $20 for everyone else. Yes, you have to pay a separate entry fee for each work entered. In the case of a cancelled category, the coordinator will contact the entrant for placement of the book in another category. In the case another category isn't acceptable to the entrant, fees and ebook will be returned.

What are the categories? Two new categories have been added, Romantic Suspense and Poetry.

a) Action/Adventure
b) Contemporary Romance
c) Historical Romance
d) Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
e) Romantic Suspense
f) Single Title/Mainstream
g) Fantasy
h) Science Fiction
i) Horror
j) Mystery
k) Thriller
l) Historical (includes Westerns)
m) Inspirational
n) Young Adult
o) Children
p) Anthology
q) Poetry
r) Nonfiction

Since ebooks are often cross-genre, envelope-pushing, and often do not fit neatly into a single genre, it will be up to the author to decide the proper category for his or her work. Yes, this means you, the author, decide. For example, if you think your book, the one the publisher listed under romance, would best fit in the fantasy category, that's where it belongs. No, you cannot enter the same book in two categories. You can enter as many different books as you like (be sure and fill out an entry form and send the entry fee and ONE packaged copy of the book for each one, and HTML copy to coordinator) but each individual book can only be entered in a single category.

Be aware when selecting a category for your book.
Judging is subjective.
A romantic fantasy may be too much romance for fantasy judges.
Your fantasy romance may not have enough romance for romance judges.
So, select wisely. EPIC is not responsible for placing your book in a category, nor for informing you that your book would be better placed elsewhere.

8. Special notes: Novellas may be entered, however, there is no specific novella category. The novella should be entered into the category where it would fit were it a novel. It will be judged according to the same criteria as novels in that category. The fee and entry requirements for a novella are the same as those for a novel.

9. Entry Blank--Fill out completely, one for each book entered, sign, and mail, with entry fee for each work entered and one packaged copy of each work entered enclosed, to Contest Coordinator:

Linda Slater
PO Box 1887
Waldron, AR 72958

10. Send one copy in HTML of the work by e-mail attachment to the contest coordinator, Linda Slater, at [email protected] BY November 30, 2000.
