| MY GRASS IS BLUE Traditional Bluegrass music is the best southern music around. Bluegrass isn't what it used to be though. Modern bluegrass music has too many female vocalist and the singing is generally not as good as it used to be. Today's bluegrass music lacks the good melodies and power that it once had. Bluegrass was better in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's with the best years coming in the early 1970's from 1971 to 1974. These were the most exciting years in bluegrass music. Groups like The Osborne Brothers, The Seldom Scene, The Country Gentlemen, Ted Lundy and The Southern Mountain Boys, Del McCoury and The Dixie Pals, and Cliff Waldron and The New Shades of Grass were some of the better ones. Bill Monroe and the Blugrass Boys and Flatt and Scruggs made for good listening in the 1950's. The Dillards were a hot group in the 1960's. Just compare the album Backporch Bluegrass by the Dillards with any bluegrass CD from today and you can see how the music has lost a lot. Bluegrass music belongs on the back porch metaphorically speaking. When it tries to become sophisticated to please the masses the quality goes down hill. Most things in life are better if they are not too popular. Today's best group is Dan Paisley and The Southern Grass.
