This years tournament sees a dramatic change in venue. We now have a
more stable and different venue to fence at. We should have more amenities, such as cold
water (that is clean), shade, a bathroom, etc. We are departing the Mississippi River
venue and opting to fence at George, Beth, and Craig's new residence, a wonderful old
house. Fencing will be under the shade of the mighty larch on the grounds at 709 Staring
Lane.Trusty rock-paper-scissors did work again, this time the sequence was Saber, Epee, and Foil. The weather was pleasent: sunny, breazy and a high of around 80F. The event started off well and was captured both on camera and video tape. Except for the odd fencing-in-circles (where Bart was amazingly enough, mostly involved with ;-) ) and the attempt by Ryan to hurt himself in new and wonderfull ways by almost breaking his spine on the root of a tree - it went off quite well. It all wrapped up around 4:20pm with the final championship. There was quite a good showing by the less experienced of the group with Steve comming out of nowhere to take the foil, John placing 3rd in foil, Wes doing quite well in both Saber AND Foil! And Ben getting second in Saber and Foil. Congrats to all who participated.
The event is a CSFA organized event designed to remove the fencers from the typical surroundings of competition. It was conceived in the twisted little minds of the Founders: Thomas Smailus, George Fuller, Beth Hughes.
The Horcktoberfest used the current CSFA rules of the event.
In light of the recent incident at LSU, rest assured that this event is safe and not university related or on university property and that all precautions are taken to insure that all participants are prevented from causing harm to themselves and to others.
