I totally agree with you. Coney is a clubhouse leader and that he does belong on the postseason roster. I'm glad Torre is a loyal guy. It was good to see Coney on the mound again! It's been a while. I really thought we were gonna wrap it up tonight, oh well. Now we get to clinch at home. I have tickets for game 7, but that makes me too nervous..... I hope we get it over with in game 6. Have fun at the game, Christina! Later guys, Eyde 26 in 2000!!!!! GO YANKEES!!!! |

Regardless of the outcome of tonite's game, man, was I overjoyed when I saw Coney warming up in the bullpen today -- the first game I'd watched in a week! Grimmy was out there throwing them to the backstop I kept yelling "put Cone in already!" Torre didn't listen and put in Gooden, which didnt bother me, considering he hasn't pitched in a while... still part of me hoped he'd walk a few guys and they'd take him out. And then all of a sudden in the eighth inning I had to do a double take... it was like whoa, Torre actually listened to me for once... it was kinda sad, though, thinking that this might be the last time we'd get to see him pitching in a Yankee uniform... didn't want it to end like this... when he threw that first ball I kept on praying "oh gosh, PLEASE let him get through this alive" ... and sure enough, he did... a little wild, but three up, three down... perhaps it was a good thing he hasn't been used in two weeks, it gave his shoulder time to heal finally... Going into the ninth, I was thinking, though... "Coney can't get the loss, but he CAN get the win"... it would have been such a storybook ending if the Yanx had come back and won it -- not just the game, but obviously the pennant... and Cone would've gotten the decision... too bad real life doesn't work that way, though.... ~PEN~ |

Hey everyone! I was flipping through Derek Jeter's new book at Barnes & Noble the other day, and in the last chapter, I saw Coney's name come up. It's only a couple pages, but it's a great bit about him. When I saw it, I immediately thought of K.Cone, but I figured you'd all appreciate it. I recommend you taking a peek. :-) Yours, Britt |

Hey guys know this is coney's court, but I know Paul is going through the same struggles as our David. Laura, when I read that story about Paulie I couldn't help comparing him to Coney. I read an interview with David a while back where he mentioned Paul was one of the few people on the team that he can talk to because they're close in age and in similar situations with their careers. Pen, you said: >Grimmy was out there throwing them to the backstop I kept yelling "put Cone in already!" Torre didn't listen and put in Gooden, which didnt bother me, considering he hasn't pitched in a while... still part of me hoped he'd walk a few guys and they'd take him out.> I couldn't help but laugh when I read this cause I was thinking the same thing. I felt guilty wishing they'd throw a few passed balls, but I wanted to see Coney! I had the same fantasy about him getting the win, too. Well there's still the World Series, and that would make an even more perfect ending. Joe saw he can get guys out, so I'm sure if there's an opportunity for him to use David he'll be in there again. We sure can't complain about Joe's loyalty, and it looks like David's shoulder is a lot better now. I sure hope we can wrap this up tomorrow. I feel confident with El Duque on the mound. Do you guys want a Subway Series? I don't but it looks like we're going to have one anyway. #26 in 2000! -- susan peters ~ [email protected] |

Britt-- Thanks for sharing that, I didn't know about it! I will have to
go check that out! Yay. :)
Laura-- That was a sad article about Paul...and it was sad to see him walk
back to the dugout last night after being called back. You could tell he
was bothered by it. And the horrible thing was it really seemed to be all
for not...:(
Christina-- I hope you have a good time at the game tomorrow!!

Susan-- I remember reading that as well...in an article you probably sent
to the list no doubt...;) I was totally with you guys too on wishing for
failed pitching so Cone would be called in (penguin I loved your
letter!)...I'd been waiting for it since the ALDS..haha I really hope
they do make it to the WS...maybe there will be a happy ending after
all....though I don't want there to be an ending...good or bad! :(
I do NOT want a Subway Series...I am a Cardinals fan...have been since I
was a kid..and the NLCS is upsetting me greatly!! A Cards-Yanks World
Series would be *fabulous* for me, but very, very emotional...many ask who
I would root for, and of course I say, "Well I can't root against David
Cone!" ;)

I'm a Mets fan.. but not one of those huge fanatics. If it were down to the subway series, I'd be rootin for the Yanks. But than of course, there are those out there in my school.. that are HUUUGGEEE mets fans, including my science teacher.. whom I have some sports debates about. This came in the mail today... I thought you guys might like to see it... CONE EARNS SECOND LOOK Joe Torre thought there would be a time when he would need David Cone this month. That time arrived Sunday. The 37-year-old made his 2000 postseason debut, throwing a perfect eighth inning in the Yankees' 6-2 loss to the Mariners in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. It proved not to mean much, but considering how poorly Cone had pitched in the final month of the regular season, it was meaningful to him. "I can't remember the last time I had a 1-2-3 inning," he said in typical self-deprecating fashion. "It felt pretty good." For the record, he did register a 1-2-3 first inning in his Sept. 30 start at Baltimore. So it hadn't been very long. But it had been very long since he felt as healthy. Cone dislocated his left shoulder in a Sept. 5 start, and while he returned 10 days after that, he never felt 100 percent. "It was much better than the last time I pitched in Baltimore, and the time previously before that," he said. If the Yankees win one more game and advance to their 37th World Series, Torre wants to pare his pitching staff from 11 to 10. Considering how poorly the injured Jason Grimsley (bone chips in right elbow) pitched Sunday, walking two in one-third of an inning, Torre could opt to keep Cone and drop Grimsley in favor of Jose Canseco. |

Great article! I think Grimsley pitched himself off the WS roster and Coney pitched in a way that justified keeping him on. With Neagle getting a start for one game in the WS, don't be surprised to see David right back in there! (Can you tell it's an off-night? I have nothing to do!) #26 in 2000! -- susan peters ~ [email protected] |

I'm so glad that Joe decided to let him pitch...and even gladder that he pitched so well. 1-2-3 inning...no trouble at all! I think we'll be seeing him pitch more, especially in the World Series. He deserves to. Jen (Jaycee) |

Hi again! I just had to write and say how much I enjoyed that article!
It's so wonderful to see that Cone's spirits are a little higher now...I'm
glad he feels good about last night. :) I definitely think that this
shows he can be an asset in the WS, providing the Yankees make it
there...(take nothing for granted!) And if a starter can only go for 4 or
5 innings, I think Cone should be the first one they put in there, not the
last! I have more faith in him than in any other pitcher, mostly because
of what he has meant to post-seasons past...
Kris-- Glad you can survive in Metsville...;) Nothing wrong with being a
Mets fan, after all, Cone did pitch for them. :) I am missing that game
right now...it is probably almost over...I really need to get home! I
hope the Cards could work some magic...!!
Take care! ~ ~ ~ ~

Hi guys! I wrote this whole long reply and my stupid e- mail provider lost the message! :( Anyway, thanks for the great articles! I have not gotten around to getting Jeter's book - I might get it for my niece for Xmas and borrow it. Nice aunt I am, right?!? I really appreciated the Paulie article - as many of you know, he is my favorite position player, and I def see the parallels between him and Coney, especially in the post-season. I'm hoping that the World Series will give them both a chance to redeem themselves and feel good about 2000! It was great to see Cone out there last night and I was *so* glad he did well - Pen - that was a great thought you had! I wish that could have happenned, but hopefully, he will have that chance! Christina - have fun at the game! I'm feeling pretty positive about it, because I never bet against El Duque in the post-season, but I'm still a little worried, just my nature! Kris & Susan - I'm from Queens too, I live in Bayside. I think it's about 50/50 Mets and Yankees fans here, from what I see and people I know. I teach Sunday School and when I was introducing myself, of course I said I'm a Yankees fan, the class was about 40% Yanks fans, 40% Mets fans, 20% could care less, "like them both", or like some other team. Bayside should be *wild* if there's a Subway Series - I was out on the town (ha ha) for the last game of the '96 Series and it was pretty unforgettable - I can't picture what a Subway Series would be like! Take care, keep smiling and LET'S GO YANKEES...:) |

In the NY Times today, they were talking about the WS rotation and
mentioned either Neagle *or Cone* would start Game 4. Too good to be
true. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
I'm off to the game!

Hey everyone!! *YAY*!!!! The Yankees did it once again! WOW... what a
series...talk about a dramatic nail-biter!! Oy!
Susan-- That is *fabulous* news about the possibility of Cone starting
game 4 in the WS!!!! I'd totally choose him over Neagle, because Neagle
hasn't looked *extremely* strong, and we all know what Cone is capable of
in the WS. He is well-rested and he has the experience. Plus, if it's
game 4, that would be played at Shea, right? And we all remember what
happened last time Cone stepped up on the mound in Shea before he got
rained out!! Tel est son destin!!!!!! :)
Yay Yankees!!
