Some on our mailing list may remember this photograph being sent around as a query from Bill because he had the picture but didn't know where the cemetery was. This is a shining example of how this networking can help fellow researchers. Jim had seen it and gave him the information he was looking for and now Jim has a picture of it!

This Cone Cemetery is located at the intersection of Old River Road and Highway 119, south of Statesboro, GA. The intersection was Ivanhoe, GA, in the early part of the century and was part of William Cone's property.
This particular cemetery contains African-American Cones and others, many of whom were probably slaves. It is still in use by local African-American residents.
The cemetery used by the the caucasian Cones is on the unpaved (dirt) part of Old River Road which runs on the side of this cemetery and is located about 3/4 of a mile down on the left and has a chain across it (it used to be part of a hunting club). And - we'd love to add the names of those buried in this cemetery too - if you have them or would like to get them, we'd love to post them!

Clara Cone is the Daughter of William Augustus Cone and Sarah Ann Warthen, William Augustus Cone is the son of Archelaus Cone and Elizabeth "Betsy" Cone.*

* Supplement added from Scott Cone on 24 August 1998: "William Augustus Cone was born in 1844 and married Susie Ann Camp on March 11, 1866. I know this because he is my great great grandfather. I have done a lot of study on the Warthen family. I have gone to the Sandersville library and have many sources that shows William B. Cone as the husband of Sarah Warthen. There is also an additional Cone grave that is not listed on the web site (Warthen) Not Warthern Family Cemetery and that is of Richard Preston Cone (Sarah's third Child) He is the son that she lost her life giving birth to. He later took on the name of Richard Preston Warthen. The Warthens were big money in that time and place and they were not happy with the marriage between William and Sarah because William was much older and took their little girl off to Texas. William later married Mary Hooks on 2\16\1874."
