| What Are Bettas | ||||||||
| Well Betta is not the only name for them. They are also called Chinese Fighting Fish and Siamese Fighting Fish. Bettas are fish from Southeast Asia where they naturally lived in ponds and rice patties. In the wild bettas had small fins and were mainly dark colors. But now that we have brought them to the US they have evolved and changed to have long flowing fins, for the males atleast the females still have short fins. Bettas are also very aggresive to each other, mainly the males. The males will fight to the death and will never live with eachother. While as females most of the time can live together but will sometimes nip at eack other. Bettas though are not really aggresive to other speices of fish. Bettas are usually 2 to 4 inches long and come in many colors almost any color you can think of. They also have the amazing ability to breathe surface air due to their Labyrinth organ. Also bettas are egg layers and the males are the ones that take care of the eggs in a nest of bubbles on the surface on the water. Well that is really what a Betta is. |
