Watch Your Step
We got inside minutes before it's started pouring rain. Nice timing. The venue was a running track; stage on one end and bleachers on the other. I decided to sit at the bleachers and walk to the front every once and a while instead of standing the entire time. After being sick for nearly two weeks straight, I really didn't want to lose all energy I had.
It was kinda amusing at the bleachers. Just about half the people that went up tripped in some way. The stairs were twice the width of normal stairs. But the last two steps were of regular width. So if the extra wide steps didn't trip someone up, the normal stairs at the end did because they thought it would be the same size as the others. So many people I saw fall. That was just a bloody nose or chipped tooth waiting to happen.
I did stay up front for Hawk Nelson's entire set. It was only five songs and less than a half hour. They were dressed in matching pink and white outfits complete with sweater vests. Just a little boy-band-ish. Their intro song was a jock-jam type song I don't know the name of. Could be simply titled "Hey!" but I just always referred to it as the dolphin show music sense it's used it that. Best part was when Jason headbanged for about 10-15 seconds straight and staggered around on stage because he got dizzy.
Kutless next. I was surprised at how quickly the set up was complete. It was less than 5 minutes between Hawk finishing and Kutless beginning. I went up for about a song and a half. It was better in back because of the better view of the light show. They seemed to be having some issues with feedback. Screaming on top of feedback doesn't sound that great.
TobyMac was amazing! Easily into my top 5 favorite concert performers. It was the perfect blend of rock and hip hop, with a little reggae flavor. The onstage presence was awesome. Lots of energy to say the least. I personally enjoyed the on stage moshpit action. There was a ton of b-boy style dancing and other moves I can't even begin to describe. Lots of backflips and breakdancing stuff. I was up front for just under 30 minutes because my foot was starting to hurt from standing (I was not wearing the best shoes for standing around in). The effect of lighting from up front and in back was crazy. From in front the strobe lights gave a really cool robotic effect to the dancing. In back the constant flashing made me feel like I was about to go blind.
We left after TobyMac. So did about half the crowd.
