Hilary Duff's Great In Concert If You Ignore Hilary Duff

We left around 4:45. Normally it takes about a half hour to get into the cities so sense the concert began at 6 that gave us plenty of time, right? WRONG! That would only be in the world where traffic is non existent. So, we got to the Target Center a little less than 10 minutes before the show was to begin. And once we finally got in, up two flights of stairs, around the corridor past ALL of the merch and food booths, down a flight of stairs in the dark and then finally to the seats, JC Chasez started about 5 seconds after we sat down. Barely time to get situated, but at least we didn't miss it completely.

JC did three songs, including "Blowin' Me Up" which has been ruined by "Clean Sweep" because that was all I could think of during the breakdown. The one major thing I can say about JC is he can dance like nobody's business. I loved the dance break in "ADIDAS" it was so cool. Oh, and I recognized one of the dancer's as Wade Robson's sister Chantel.

Next was Maroon 5. I only know "Harder To Breathe" sense I don't have their CD, but they were really good. I would describe it as kind of a blues inspired rock band with an R&B singer. He could really belt out the high notes. Whenever he hit those it was like, "Woo! You go boy!" And during "Harder To Breathe" there was some guy onstage that looked like he was dancing or something. It was really random. I later discovered it was actually Jason Mraz. Nice...

Hilary Duff was the next act. I know I was planning on getting up during her, but when I heard her band warming up I decided to stay because they sounded really good. That Star Tribune review called her Bubblegum Hard Rock, and that's the perfect description. I basically attempted to tune her (Bubblegum) out and just listen to the band (Hard Rock). Her bass player was cool (he had Slash hair, haha). Really if they cut Hilary out and replaced her with a more rock sounding singer with better lyrics, it would be perfect.

Simple Plan next. The highlight of the show happened during their set. They were singing "Perfect" and were at the quiet part of the song when the power cut off on the stage. So they had to entertain the crowd while someone fixed it. They handled it very well. The entertainment included throwing out water bottles, picks, and drum sticks, some weird tap-dancing/ballet routine, chest bumping between I think it was Pierre and David, and some push ups.

Finally the power went back on and they finished the song. Great moment, definitely in my concert moment hall of fame along with the Plus One no singing sing along. Simple Plan also sang their Christmas song, which I was hoping they would but didn't think it would actually happen. That's actually the first Simple Plan song I ever heard way back in October of 2001.

Next there was some between acts entertainment. There was music (mostly hip hop) playing between acts. Around this time we noticed there was a dance group at the back of the floor doing some breakdancing to the music. I figured it to be the same group as from Last Chance Summer Dance. But not all of it was hip hop music, because they played Linkin Park "Numb!" That made me very happy. Also played was The Ataris "Boys of Summer" and Good Charlotte "Girls and Boys."

Now we're up to Jason Mraz. Favorite after Simple Plan. It was a nice bluesy jazzy jam kind of thing. I know, not a great description, but it was really cool. My dad would love it because he really likes blues and jazz music. Over 50% of what Jason sang wasn't even actually words, it was all scatting. It was really cool. And he did all this weird laughing which was so funny. He seems like a really goofy guy and would be fun to hang out with.

And last we have Kelly Clarkson. I didn't really pay much attention to her. We were passing notes back and forth to determine when to leave so we wouldn't be stuck in the huge crowd. She was introducing "Low" and I wanted to leave the song before, but Kelsey said we should leave right after the song finished. I figured okay sense it was only her fourth song and she would probably sing at least one more. Well, turns out it was her last song, so we ended up stuck in the crowd anyway.

Overall, it was a good show. The crowd, although full of young little kids, was a lot less annoying than I expected. And Hilary Duff was amazing when you ignored Hilary Duff. Haha, I had to put that in. That's what Kelsey said and I found it hilarious. It's funny 'cause it's totally true. Thus it has the honor as becoming this recap's title.
