I Don't Know What We're Yelling About!
I had seats up in the balcony this time around. It was interesting to be able to watch the entire pit from above. Random highlights now:
The preshow and between bands music was an eclectic mix of high energy classical music and death metal. Strange but true.
I brought my digital camera. While going through security I found out digital wasn't allowed and was told to not get caught. Like that would happen. Actually at one point a security guy was two feet away and I was being completely obvious to the fact I had a digital camera and he didn't even notice.
Lola Ray was so-so. They crowd didn't really seem into it. There's wasn't much movement at all in the pit. The most they got was some people holding up lighters when prompted during the final song.
Hazen Street had a great soundcheck/instrument test thing. Usually it's just a few bangs on the drum and a couple guitar strums. They had a good thirty seconds of playing on each instrument. I liked the drum the best. Great beat that some kids in the back did random break dancing to.
Hazen Street had a Linkin Park vibe going on with the hip hop influences and two singers. Not too shabby, I must say.
Before Sum 41 they were projecting random "Funniest Home Video" clips on a backdrop. It was interesting hearing the entire crowd react to footage of people and other objects falling and other clips you would expect to see on that show.
Stevo came out wearing an apron with blood smeared on it and carried a chainsaw. Wish I got a photo of that.
Deryck ran out around to the back by the sound booth and played a couple songs back there. The view of the entire crowd running after him from above was classic.
Yay, Pain for Pleasure!
While doing checks for Good Charlotte one of the lights blinked and everyone started screaming. I was thinking "Did something important happen that I missed, or did everyone really just scream for a light?"
Good Charlotte began with "Once Upon A Time: The Battle of Life and Death." I was signing along even though it's in Japanese and I had no idea what I was saying.
A girl a few rows behind me kept doing the Lil' Jon "Yeah!" At first it was funny, but it got old really quick. I'm surprised she didn't do it when Joel had us all yell "yeah" over and over again.
I took some really amazing photos of the lighting and whatnot. Some are a bit grainy because that's what my camera tends to do when taking dark photos, but they are still cool. I took over 100 photos, which I was not expecting to do.
