American Idol Style

Plus One concert last night. It was lovely. But then again when isn't that how a Plus One concert is? I didn't think they could top the last time I saw them. They just get better every time. I'm just gonna post they very best of the highlights because otherwise this would take too long to type.

I promised I would sit at one of the tables because of my anemia really acting up. We didn't get there until a half hour after the doors opened. Only one table was left; in the back on the right side right next the Hawk Nelson merch booth. It wasn't that bad really if you don't count the fact two pillars blocked the view. To see the right side of the stage I got up and moved a foot to the left. To see the right I walked forward a couple of steps. I really wanted to sit up in the balcony, but it was closed for whatever reason.

Hawk Nelson was hanging out by their merch table both before and after their set. Of course I didn't realize it was them until they went on stage and I was like, "That was the dude standing next to me!" They were alright. They kinda sound like Simple Plan but a lot less poppy sounding. Best part was when a string on the bass broke and they had to stall. The lead singer says, "I have bad news too. My leg just fell off." It was so random I just started laughing. Later when they were back at the merch booth dad said to him he was glad his leg was better. The lead singer (Jason) responded, "Oh yeah, I stitched it back up backstage. It's still bleeding a little but that's okay."

There was supposed to be three opening acts but there ended up only being the one. I knew Telecast wasn't gonna be there, but I have no idea what happened to Jadon Lavik.

And now Plus One. Nate was being weird and strange onstage, but what else is new? New moves included doing the robot, running around with his jacket on his head, and falling over on the line "everybody stumbles" and all I could see was his legs sticking straight up in the air.

Highlight of the entire night was section of acoustic songs. During "My Life" Gabe started saying his own lyrics. It was like a "Whose Line Is It Anyway" spoof of those older songs with the speaking part in it. That is the only way it can be explained. They stopped the song and were all like "That's not part of the song." Next during "Soul Tattoo" Nate made up his own lyrics. It went something like "I don't have a tattoo/do you have a tattoo/you're too scared to/I am too." It reminded me of how Jason Mraz sings for some odd reason.

I must mention it was great being next to the Hawk Nelson booth. It made up for being so far away from the stage. Half the show was observing how that band reacted to things, jeering jokingly and the like.

"Written on my Heart" was the funniest by far. At the beginning it was just Gabe singing and playing guitar with the crowd singing along. He stopped and was all, "Stop singing, this is my part. Seriously!" Later in the song at the exact moment I was thinking about the old choreography of it Jason from Hawk Nelson jumped onstage and did a great impression of bad boyband choreography. Nate then asked if we wanted to see the song done "American Idol Style." The chairs they were sitting on were moved to give him room as he did a hilarious version of a bad American Idol Reject singing and dancing around. It was like a bad Micheal Jackson impersonation with even worse broadway style choreography. I was laughing so hard at this point there were tears in my eyes.

It doesn't get any better than that.
