Review:
The finest Toad show I've yet to experience in person; trademark
renditions of, well, everything; "Let's Miss the Super Bowl" is Glen solo
doing a bit of a Jesse Rhodes tune; "Crowing" begins the disturbing tour-long
trend of Mr. Hootie doing the lead vocal; one of the (if not the) first live
performance of "Windmills"; "Torn" to "Know Me" make up the "songs of anger,
depression and despair" section of this tour's nightly set; "Jeremy" is a
chuckle; it's probably cheap of me to include "Where The Streets Have No Name"
on the tracklist, since there's no vocal (just Dean on the organ), oh well;
Toad pay homage to the mighty Crazy Horse on their own "Reincarnation Song";
"I Will Not Take These Things For Granted" is a beauty, as usual; outside of
being a local Santa Barbara musician and appearing on Dudley's first album, no,
I don't know who Jesse Rhodes is either. (C.H.)
