This is me! Hover over the pic! Now that you are here, you belong to ME! In case you were not aware, I am a concert fanatic. I love concerts, and live to go to them... so for now, you get to hear me rant about them. They are listed in the order I attended them in. All the band pictures are links to sites about them, so go ahead, click on one, find some new concert dates and check them out... AND HAVE SOME FUN!
My first concert was the Family Values Tour "1999" It made a pretty good first concert, and I really enjoyed the band Staind. It kinda sucked that they opened, because no one was excited yet. If they had been, I think they would have got a much better response and review. I was mad while they were on stage do to a couple that didn't remember they were in a public place, and kept bumping into me during the concert. Otherwise, the Staind show was good.
The details of the concert are kinda fuzzy, I don't remember who came next, but the next one that sticks out in my head...
PRIMUS!!!!!!! Primus was a surprise for me, I did not know that they were going to be at Family Values, but the came out with a bang, blasting "Electric Uncle Sam", and it rang threw all our eardrums. Definitely a performance that I will not forget anytime soon. They rocked the house. At this point I traded seats with a real hot guy... so I didn't have to keep getting rubbed up against by the people who still didn't realize that they were in a public place. GEEZ!
Next in line (to my recollection) was FILTER! Filter was really tearing it up! They rocked the house for a solid hour. I really enjoyed their set, and I wanted them to stay on longer, but they managed to get everyone anticipating LIMP BIZKIT taking stage, and everyone was ready to get up and jump around. He wailed up there, and most people really enjoyed it, although I heard a rap fan complain that they were on stage too long, they were eager to hear the rappers.
Throw some rappers in here, I think it was Method Man and Redman. I'm not big on watching them jump around stage and try to have chicks take their tops off, so I left for a drink during this show, but the part I did see, I was surprised... I thought that they would make me sick, but instead, I only got mildly nauseous. (For those of you that can't figure it out, that was a complement, the best I can give them because they did better than I expected, but it didn't make me a fan)
Finally Method Man and Redman left the stage. I suppose it was a good thing that they took so long to get off stage, because when we came back from trying to get drinks, the security guards said that too many people had gone through, and we couldn't go back down there. I explained to her that we were with two of the guys down there that were saving seats for us, but she said to try another area anyway. "but if you don't find a way in, come back to me and I'll see what I can do." The only area we could go in was upstairs, and I wanted to be with that hot guy that drove me there, so I went back to the first security guard, and taking pity on myself and my friend, she let us in, just in time for the rappers to depart the stage. Limp Bizkit took stage and everyone jumped up, they really know how to control the stage. The excitement was high, and at one point Limp Bizkit started to play the beginning of other peoples songs. They got around to a nice Metallica tune, and the crowd fell silent for a moment, and began singing along with the music. Such a tease, Limp Bizkit stopped playing as soon as the crowd began to sing with it. I really enjoyed their concert, but then again, that was before they started saying "Limp Bizkit" 20x in every song. I don't like them anymore, but I admit it was a good show. Great stage presence for Limp.
Family Values ended on a high note, and we all walked out knowing we had seen a good show, but not before we bought shirts that were WAY over priced, and then we hit the scalpers on the way out as well. For ten dollars I got a nice tye dye Family Values shirt, as did all my friends. We all decided we would wear our concert shirts to school the next day, and we all were going to be there at 7:30 to battle the school on whether or not we should be allowed to wear chain jewelry. Only one person made it that early, and we won. I found out when I awoke that the shirt I bought from the scalper had a HUGE hole right in the chest... bummer, Pam didn't get to wear the concert shirt to school, but everyone knew I had gone by the red, sleepless eyes that told the whole story.
My next concert was Rage Against the Machine. Let me just tell those of you that don't know, it's a bad first time experience in the pit. The entire crowd moved as one, we all got tossed around and bruised pretty good, and I got smashed in the head by some guy's stupid elbow, and the first two bands that took stage sucked, but after that, Rage took the stage and it was all worth it. Rage came on as intense as ever. They had the entire crowd moving, but it became really hard to stay standing in the pit, and I had been hit in the head and couldn't hardly walk right, so me and some of my friends headed for the seats. When we got there, I could not believe what I saw. The people down there looked like a million ants, all moving quickly and spinning around. I could not believe that I was down there, and survived. People who stayed down there the entire concert came out thinking that they were Gods. They are wrong of course, but I heard a person or two say that. Rage Against the Machine puts on a concert well worth the cost, and I wanted to go again, but the concert was cancelled (after the Democratic National Convention) and Rage lost Zack de la Roche before they made it back to my area. I won't go to watch without Zack. He was the heart and soul of the band, I hope he goes solo and keeps up getting the good messages out.
Guster was a whole new experience in concerts for me, it was in a swanky bar in Sacramento called "Big Shots". This however, had no bearing on how good of a concert it was. There was a great opening act for Guster, a band called Owesley. I fully enjoyed their set and had intended to buy their cd. They must have been out by the time Guster was over cause I could not find anyone selling Owesley stuff after Guster left the stage. Although hard to find, eventually I came across their cd in Camelot. I bought it quick. Guster put on a great show as well, you would never believe how well a bongo can sound in a band. As well as making great music, they were also very good at making fun of some of the bands they toured with previously. It was a great concert, and cheap too. If you ever get the chance to see Guster, GO GO GO!
A DAY IN THE ZONE! This was at discovery park in Sacramento. Zoppi was the first band to take stage at "A day in the zone". Just as me and my wonderful company (Hot guy from family values) made it towards the stage, Zoppi began their set. I was surprised that the opener kicked sooo much uh... aunt fanny. They were a great band to see live and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Being outside, we broke out the sunblock during this set... nice and early...
Angie Apparo was the next set. Definitely not as good without the synthesized voice, I did not enjoy his set. Choose another band to see... we opted to get up and walk around during his set, there is plenty other things to do.
Back with some Sobe beverages, the Gas Giants took stage and we found a nice place to kick it as they tore up the stage with the song "Quitter". The lead singer of the group The Gin Blossoms leads for this band. This was a thoroughly enjoyable set. They were well worth the cost... which wasn't expensive at all.
Guster was the next set! Yes I saw Guster 2x, and both times they played their hearts out, and at A day in the Zone, the guys played so hard the bongos broke. We really like Guster, and the second show was not as good as the first because they didn't want to badmouth all the bands they toured with, so it lost the humor aspect, but it was still worth it, still a good show! GO SEE THEM!
Stroke 9 took stage for the last show. They got everyone up and dancing, which under normal circumstances would be great, but at this concert, the majority of people there were over-weight 30+ year olds wearing bikinis. Now if you like to sway to the hypnotic jiggling of some persons body fat, that would have been fun for you, but I found it disgusting. The concert portion was awesome, and I recommend going to see them if you get the chance, but if you can, see one that doesn't have heavy people in hardly any clothes, I suggest that one. Even the good people at 100.5 the Zone complained about the lack of clothing on the people, and people who called to complain. Over all it was a great concert though, got me out of the house the entire day, and for both me and my guy, it was only $20.00! 20.00 YOU SAY? Yes, the Zone has one day before the concert where they hang out in the Arden Fair Mall and sell tickets buy one get one free. It's well worth it. This is a concert you SHOULD NOT MISS! The Van's Warped Tour
This was an awesome concert in general. It's not too expensive, and you could choose from like 100 bands to see. The only thing I didn't like is that you couldn't see them all. Bands like NOFX, MXPX, Long Beach Dub All-stars, and Green Day rocked the stage. I was disappointed that Less Than Jake didn't make it to California, but it was still well worth it. Advice for future Van's concert goers, make sure to take of your chains and what not in the car, they will either make you throw them away at the gate or return all the way to your car and put them away. And then the hypocrites sell them inside.... oh well, what are you gonna do... MXPX and Green Day were awesome, as were others, but NOFX wasn't as good as I expected, and neither was Long Beach. Still worth your cash... there's plenty to do there, and cheap t-shirts everywhere!
The KISS farewell tour! I had no intention of attending this concert because for a nosebleed section ticket, it was about $40. You were not gonna see much, but as it turned out, we got an offer we couldn't refuse. That HOT guy that's gone to all the concerts with me, happened to have one of his old teachers call his house up and say "I got free tickets to KISS, and I'm not going... want two tickets?" So this hot guy accepts the tickets of course, and we grabbed another person who wanted to go and was willing to buy a ticket, and we went. Although we got the grass or nosebleed section tickets, it was still a cool show to go to. Reminiscent of a star-wars convention, seeing guys old enough to be your dad dancing around and head banging just seemed oddly funny, and cool. It was a fun concert besides the drunk sliding across the grass on his knees screaming out the KISS lyrics. He kinda scared me, and the people with a certain lack of clothing scared me too, but besides that, a good show with lots of bright lights and special effects like a flying Gene Simmons who was out in and over the crowd. Way better than I expected, but I still wouldn't pay that much for a ticket... for a free concert though, you couldn't beat it!
Opening for Less than Jake is no small task. These guys near stole the show. Coming out blasting great punk tunes with a little rap style to it, Zebrahead had the whole place jumping in a matter of seconds. Packed like sardines into yet another swanky bar called "The Brickworks" in Chico, CA., we could hardly move, but you really got pulled into what was going on and I think everyone had alot of fun there. The guys put on a great show, and after the concert would be found standing outside talking to fans. One of my friends made their way over to one of the singers and asked if she could touch his fuzzy pants. He let her and as she stood their stroking his leg, he told her about how it used to be the upholstery on his old couch. He was really nice and it's cool they don't let being in a band go to their head. About 2 days later, these guys got alot more famous. Hopefully they stay cool, no one likes a sell-out. But while we were there, they sold their cds for like $8. YEA! I bought one! Soon after I picked up their new album, and it was awesome too. The song "Playmate of the year" is soooo much better in concert though, so to truly appreciate it, go see one of their concerts!
The next band to take stage was "The Ataris", don't think I didn't like them just because I don't have a picture, I couldn't find one, but they put on a great show, and if you get a chance to hear the song "Hey Kid" by the Ataris, make sure to check it out. I bought their cd right at the concert for like $8. It is great too. Take advantage of one of their concerts.
Less than Jake came out and put on a great show, breathing fire and everything. You would not believe how fast their set went by, we were all really enjoying ourselves despite the fact I felt sick. Even though they are gaining alot of popularity, they still put on an inexpensive but awesome concert. The show sold out, we all packed into that little area, and they sang their hearts out. The prices of shirts and cds were about $8-$12, and getting in was $10. All well worth it of course, I regard this as one of the best concerts I went to. You can't beat this show, because every band was awesome, the prices were low, and they rocked hard and were VERY good to their fans, and even acknowledging them. They are well worth seeing, and the cd "Hello Rockview" is so awesome, and pretty clean too. Their new cd, "Borders and Boundaries" came out not to long ago, so check it out!
