Spouse: John W. McKenzie Children: Jack, 7 Hannah, 6 Residence: Akron, OH College: Middlebury College Professional Degree: J.D. (from Case Western Reserve University) Hobbies: skiing, swimming, tennis, attending my kids' sporting events How do you answer this question without sounding like you're reading your resume or trying to make your life sound more "adventurous" than it really is? I'm not sure you can ... so here goes: After graduating from Middlebury College in 1987, I spent a year working as a paralegal in Boston. In the fall of 1988, I enjoyed a two month back-packing trip to Europe, then returned home for the remainder of the year to save money and apply to law school. I started law school at Case Western Reserve Univesity (that's in Cleveland, Ohio) in the fall of 1989. It ws during that year that I met my husband, John, who was a classmate and good friend. We graduated in the spring of 1992 and, although we were engaged, I headed to Chicago to start a job at a medium sized law firm there. After almost a full year in Chicago, I headed back to Ohio, where we've been ever since. We were married in West Hartford in June, 1993 and enjoy several trips back to the area each year to visit my folks and brothers who all still live in Connecticut. For the first couple of years back in Ohio, I practiced law in a small firm in Canton (where the football hall of fame is located), doing mostly medical malpractice defense work. While I enjoyed practicing and being in the courtroom, I decided to change jobs when my son Jack (born October, 1995) was about a year old. For the past seven years, I have been teaching research and writing to first year law students at Case Western Reserve University law school. The teaching schedule allows me to spend more time with my kids Jack (now 7, almost 8) and Hannah (6). As most of you know, that's where the bulk of my energy goes -- getting them ready for school, getting them to their various activities, watching all of their sporting events and just generally enjoying their energy and spirit. |
