Document approved, unanimously, by the Council of the CMU in its latest meeting held in Bari on the 30th of November 2001
There is no doubt that the 11 september has changed considerably the behaviour of the whole world.
The terrible and tragic terroristic attack which stroke New York and Washington D.C. did not involve only the United States but the entire world as well, without any distinction as far as race, colour, language and religion are concerned.
We believe that the responsability of it must be assigned wholly to a group, even though evidently well organized worldwide, of terrorists, who have nothing to do with the islamic world even less with any religious connotation. We, the Community of Mediterranean Universities (CMU), must definetely exclude any possible overlapping notwithstanding that these terrorists claim that they are belonging to that world.
Therefore while condemning the terroristic act and the terrorism by and large, the CMU wants to reniew its deep appreciation, concern and friendship to the islamic people.
The mediterranean universities must fulfil the role of taking a strong stand and refusing to consider what is happening a religious war.
