Rmks/ 1.  July 3 1943 We had been asigned to patrol Northern Japan, our est. travel time was 9.58 days. July 12 0307 hours we were on loc. 40-09N,143-33E heading 233�. Equipment were 24 MK 14 torpedos, SD radar, SJ radar(SJa) and Bathythermograph. Running on 4 engines at all ahead full our speed was 8.4 kts. 0340 hours Made a trim dive and took her down to 420 feet, no layer. Changed course to 310�.

Rmks/ 2.  1357 hours Surface contact on SJ radar bearing 090�. Range 13000 yards. Came to course 042. 1402 hours ship spotted bearing 013� range 10000 yards. At 1424 we fired 3 bow torpedos at standard merchant range 1500 yards. #1 hit (heard the exsplotion did not see it). #2 dud #3 missed. Fired 3 more at him #1 sank #2 prematured #3 missed. Fired 2 stern torpedos at Standard merchant and 2 stern topedos at converted factory ship. #1, 2, and 3 sank, #2 hit. Fired one bowtorpedo at armed merchant gruiser. Missed. Dive. At this unquarded convoy i fired 11 torpedos, 2 hit, 1 dud, 1 prematured, 3 missed, and 4 sank to the bottom. Heard some exsplotions and spotted airplane at 1501 hours. Dived to 150 feet. 1559 hours after haveing chased converted factory ship for some time (he was only at 2.8 kts. must have been badly damaged when we hit him erlier) fired two torpedos at him both hit, he burns. Fired one more at him and destroyed. Airplane spotted dive to 150 feet. Came to course 300�. Remaining torpedos 6 in bow and 4 in stern.

Rmks/ 3.  Surface contact on SJ radar at 2334 hours bearing 022� range 12000-13000 yards. Ship sighted at 2351 hours bearing 029� (Destroyer) most likly from CL group witch was reported in the area. Came to periscope depth, range to DD 2300 yards. 2358 hours One cruiser was sighted + 5 DD�s, cruiser looks like Naka class range 5000 yards. Est. speed about 22-25 kts. Becouse of heavy seas I ordered silent om board and decited not to attack. Cruiser was sighted again at 0013 hours 4500 yards away, we lost sight of him very soon again. 0024 hours CL group last sighted bearing 284� an course 080� at a speed of 26 kts.

Rmks/ 4.  July 13 0126 hours changed course to 060�. 0358 hours surface contact on SJ radar bearing 066� range about 10000 yards. 0407 hours came to course 055. 0411 hours ship spotted bearing 356� (Destroyer) range 4200 yards. When range to DD was 2800 yards I ordered dive to periscope depth. 0431 hours 7 ships in sigth, 3 large freigters, 3 small freigters and 1 troop transport. Fired 3 bow torpedos at large freigter, fired 2 bow torpedos at small freigter. #1 and 2 hit and destroyed, #3 missed, #4 hit and destroyed #5 dud. Fired 1 bow torpedo and 2 stern torpedos at large freigter #1 hit sinking freigther #2 hit #3 dud. Fired 2 stern torpedos at him #1 and 2 were dud�s Dived to 150 feet. 0600 hours surfaced, Aircontact on SD radar Crash dived down to 250 feet. 0615 hours heard explotion far away. 0735 hours surfaced. 0738 hours With torpedos exspand I ordered return to base.
