Re:  Patrol report (cycle 2)

Rmks/ 1.  Assigned to patrol Indochina. Travel time 5.21 day.

Rmks/ 2.  Arrived on jan 9 11:17 on pos. 11-17N,115-24E Heading 269°. I ordered submerged patroling at periscope depth duo to some heavy enemy activity.

Rmks/ 3.  On 10 jan 23:44 we sighted a small convoy bearing 16° ordered surface attack. Fired two bow torpedos at ST. MR. at range af 1500 yards, one prematured and other was a dud. fired two stern torpedos at small freighter both were dudīs. I then fired two bow torpedos at him one was a dud and other missed. Took him out with deck gun.

Rmks/ 4.  At 03:26 lookoutīs reported one DD sighted bearing 320° range 4500 yards. Probebly a small convoy, ordered periscope depth. At range of 2500 yards i fired two bow torpedos at ST. MR. both dudīs fired two bow torpedos at troop transport one prematured other hit and destroyed. Two DDīs wenth looking for me but after nearly an hour they gave up never being able to find me. Almost dawn so i ordered dive to 150 feet.

Rmks/ 5.  At 07:36 sonar reported low speed screws, ordered periscope depth. Shortly after ships were sighted 10000 yards away. At range of 1250 yards i fired 3 torpedos at ST. MR. one under run targed, two hit and last one hit and destroyed. Fired two stern torpedos at small freighter both missed fired my last torpedo at him, missed again.

Rmks/ 6.  Ordered return to base and arrived on 16 jan 1942.

REMARKS:  Out of 16 torpedos there were 3 hits, 1 underrun target, 2 prematured, 6 dudīs and 4 misses on my acount. There has to be somthing done about these dudīs.
