Patrol Narrative:
Patrolled with no contact for several days until receiving radio message
to perform lifeguard duty for air strike at 5-12S, 119-29E. While enroute detected convoy 7-45S, 118-20E. Changed course to intercept convoy consisting of Converted
Factory Ship, Troop Transport, Oil
Tanker, Large Freighter. Came to full
stop waited for CFS and TT to pass with OT & LF still to my port. fired tubes 1 & 2 at OT & LF direct
hits sunk fired tube 5 at CFT dud, fired 6 hit damaged fired 7 sunk CFT 2/3
changed course to pursue TT. Fired 3
sunk TT. Continued Patrol of JS3
area. Convoy sited 15:18 11 Mar 7- 43S,
120 – 44 E consisting of Armed Merchant Cruiser and a Standard Merchant fired
tube 1 at AMC and 4 at SM both missed right full rudder to bring my stern tubes
to bear and stay in front of the targets. Fired 8 at AMC and 7 at SM dud and
miss fired 5 and 4 respectively turned to bring fore tubes to bear fired 2 and 3 hits slowed to 1/3rd
stalked and waited for tubes to reload
fired 1 and sunk SM. Reacquired AMC fired 4 and sunk it.
