Patrol Narrative:
Began Patrol
16:00 8 Jan 1943. Convoy spotted 17:05
Jan 9. 6-25S, 155-57E. Maneuvered into firing position. Attacked and sank Troop
Transport, 2 Large Freighters, Small Freighter and Small Merchant Ship. Dived
to 300 and outlasted DD barrage. Surfaced, recharge batteries and continued
patrol. 10 Jan 1943 14:49 5-51S, 156-59E encountered convoy. Maneuvered into position and attacked. Sank
2 Troop Transports, Small Merchant,
Supply Ship and an Oil Tanker. Endured DD barrage by 1 Destroyer. Surfaced and returned to port. Awarded Bronze Star. Hull Damage 39% System Damage 25%.
