Patrol Narrative:
Began Patrol 1500 12 June 1943. Received Photo recon mission 1850 target
7-09N, 148-00E. Proceeded to
location. Detected by DD’s tried to
evade but was attacked. Went on
offensive and sunk 3 DD’s. Completed
mission. 13 June 0620. Retreated from
harbor and completed repairs. 11:01
Convoy spotted 7, 50N- 148-57E. had to
steer clear because batteries were drained and needed recharging. 20:30 resumed
patrol. 04:50 14 June convoy spotted 7-37N, 150-36E bearing 290 escorted by 3
DD’s. changed course to lad convoy and
approach from the front. Dove to
periscope depth pointed directly at lead vessel all stop. Fired at three vessels
sunk them. 0514 7-37N, 150-31E Standard
Merchant 9420, 0515, Troop Transport
7530, 0517, Converted factory ship
6400. DD’s were on far side of convoy
and we were able to avoid contact. Returned to base. Awarded Bronze Star.
