Patrol Narrative: 

8 Dec 1941 Orders received and acknowledged, S-38 will proceed to sea immediately to conduct unrestricted submarine warfare on Japanese shipping in patrol zones P 3, 4, & 5. 

 

9-15 Dec 1941; Weather overcast heavy seas; Patrol area near Lingayen Gulf No contacts.

 

16 Dec 1941; overcast heavy seas; Contact with small convoy, closed to engage sank 1 Troop Transport (3 hits)

 

17-25 Dec 1941; cloudy mod seas; continue patrol with no further contacts, return to base. 

 

Comments: Boat was hard to handle in rough seas but we were able to sink one troop transport.
