Description: By optimizing your Vcache settings your system delivers a better, improved system performance Just always bear in mind that the lesser the value you put in your "disk cache" the more RAM will be available for your programs/games, and will in turn improve their performance. BUT setting the "disk cache" too low, will degrade your hard disk performance. So 'balance' is the key in achieving the best setting! Edit the system.ini 1. First you must calculate your optimal Cache settings by using the following formulas: If you have 32 megs of RAM or below use this number: 1024 If you have 48 to 128 megs of RAM use this formula: Amount Of RAM x 96 i.e. If you had 64 megs of RAM you would do the following equation: 64 x 96 = 6144 If you have 129 to 256 megs of RAM or above use this formula: Amount Of RAM x 128 i.e. If you had 256 megs of RAM you would do the following equation: 256 x 128 = 32768 If you have 256 megs of RAM or above use this number: 32768 2. Click on the 'Start' menu. 3. Click on the 'Run..' button. 4. A Small window will now appear, type in the word 'system.ini' and press the 'Enter' key! 5.The system.ini file will now open, Scroll down the heading [vcache] 6. Below the [vcache] heading add the following lines of text: MaxFileCache=Use the number you calculated in step 1 chunksize=514 Please Note: when typing the above text, make sure you DON'T put ANY spaces in between each letter, number or symbol, i.e. If you had 64 megs of RAM you would input the following code: MaxFileCache=6144 chunksize=514 6. Open the 'File' menu at the top of the screen and choose 'Save' 7. Open the 'File' menu again and choose 'Exit'
