What is CPU and motherboard?

CPU:
Inside the computer is a tiny silicon chip called
the Central Processing Unit or CPU.  The CPU
is the brain of the entire computer system, with
the help of the computer's internal memory it
receives the instructions in a program by performing
simple logical operations at  very high speeds.
Silicon is semiconductor element that combines
with other chemicals to make a CPU chip. The
Silicon inside a microprocessor is formed into
millions of transistors that do the basic logical functions.
Examples are Intel's Pentium III, IV

Motherboard:
The main circuit board inside a computer is called motherboard. This board sits inside the bottom of the computer cabinet. This board houses almost every part that goes into building a computer. Motherboard is also known as system board.
Motherboard is a flat green board that has  expansion slots, the power supply, Central Process Unit, Memory (RAM) and internal & external devices attached to it.
Whenever devises are connected to the computer, they must have some type of control unit that allows them to communicate with the CPU.

What is a Printer?

Printers are the most common output devices in a computer system.  It prints the result of computation.  Printers fall under various categories character printer, dot-matrix Printer, line printer and laser printer etc. character printer print only one character at a time while line printers print a complete line at a time and page printers print a full page at a time.

What is parallel port?

A computer port that transfers data or bytes of data in parallel.  The Parallel ports are referred to as LPT port. Parallel port is concerned to Printers of computer systems.

What is serial port?

A computer port that transfer bits serially. Serial ports are also called COM ports. The serial port is on the back on the computer. Mouse is connected to the serial port.

What is USB port?
This is called universal serial bus. In this port data is also transferred serially but the bus has advantage that any other output device can be attached to the system through this port.

What is Monitor? (Display device)

The monitor is simply a display screen similar to a television screen. When you press keys on the keyboard, the results are displayed in the screen.

Several types of monitors are in common use.  A monochrome monitor displays information in a single color.  Also called as Black and white.  Other monitors are color monitors, which use three colors, Red, Green and Blue from which all colors are produced.

Screen of monitors have different resolutions. Screen in made of small dots called pixels.

14" (640x480 and 800x600 pixels)
15" (640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 pixels)
17" (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960 and 1280x1024 pixels)

Controller of monitor has memory called VRAM which varies from 1 MB - 8 MB.

RGB (Red, Green and Blue)

Combination of these three colors make million of colors
8 bit colors - 256 colors
16 bit colors - 65000 colors
24 bit colors - 16,777,216 colors

What is computer software?

The computer contains two basic parts (i) Hardware (ii) Software.  The term Hardware refers to various functioning components of a computer such as the processor, printer, keyboard and monitor. The term software refers to applications that tell computer how to perform the tasks.

Computer software consists of sets of instructions that perform arithmetic and logical functions.  A computer software can be classified in two categories

1. System Software, 2. Application Software.

What is Internet?

The Internet is a world wide "network of networks".  It is a loose collections of thousands of smaller networks in different countries around the globe. It links hundreds of thousands of computer systems together, enabling millions of people from diverse cultures to share information and other resources. The computers all over the world are connected by the phone lines, television cables, fiber optic cables and satellite links.
