It is believed that Nicholas,Sr. emigrated form Germany prior to the Revolutionary War. ( Others researching this family believe he was born in Lancaster Co., Pa.) The Fayette, Somerset and Berks Co., Pa. Mossers' are believed to be descended from Nicholas, Sr. or his brothers.
The name is spelled on various sources as Mosser/Musser/Masser/Moser etc.
The Mossers were Brethen (also known in America as Dunkers and Baptists) of German origin.
After the War of 1812, Nicholas, Sr. moved from Lancaster Co., Pa. to Selbysport in Garrett Co. Md. His sons Christian, John and Nicholas accompanied him.
Nicholas V. Mosser is believed to be buried on his 200 acre farm in Selbysport. He purchased the 200acres from John Simpkins in 1804 ( Land deeds from Allegheny Co. Courthouse, Cumberland, Md.)

Notes for JOHN MOSSER, SR.:
Veteran of the War of 1812. Settled at Clifton Mills, Preston Co. W.Va. John recieved a land grant for services performed in the war. In later years John Musser, Jr. and Henry Musser signed as witnesses to a land warrant application for their father circa 1855. John felt he was eligible for additional lands based on his services in the War of 1812. He had lost his discharge papers and "Land Bounty" application papers by that time. ( In his application of 1855, John stated he had lost the papers when he fell into the Monongahalia River about a mile above Cookstown, Pa.) It is possible he was visiting relatives in Fayette Co., Pa. when this occurred. He was awarded an additional 120 acres in the "Ohio Territory". It is believed he gave or sold this land grant to his son John,Jr. who headed towards Illinois about this time.
John was a farmer, owning a farm on "the east side of Big Sandy Creek" in Clifton Mills, W.Va. In 1863 John sold his farm to 101 acres to his son Daniel and wife Elizabeth Frederick Musser for $1000 with the stipulation that he and his wife Susanna could live there until their deaths.

Harold F. Mosser, 71, of Dickerson Run, died Monday afternoon at home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Dawson , November 7, 1900, the son of the late Curtis and Clara Stangroom Mosser. He was a member of the Philip G. Cochran United Methodist Church of Dawson and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and was a retired engineer for the P. & L. E. Railroad Co., retiring in 1968 after 48 years of service. Surviving are his wife; Mrs. Alpha Boyer Mosser; one son, Robert C. (Bud) Mosser of Charleston, S. C. ; two daughters Mrs. Lewis (Dolores) Cravener of Apollo and Mrs. William (Jeanne) Csonka of Leechburg; nine grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. A. L. (Pearl) Howe of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Mildred Welling of Dickerson Run and Mrs. N. J. (Martha) Sokcevic of Mount Airy, Md.

Alpha Belle Boyer Mosser, 88, Kiski Twp., formerly of Dickerson Run, died Monday, Jan. 21, 1991, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lewis R. (V. Dolores) Cravener, with whom she resided. She was born Oct. 12, 1902, in Vanderbilt, a daughter of Robert M. and Minnie M. Page Boyer. She lived in Dickerson Run until moving to Kiski Twp. three years ago. She was a member of the Vanderbilt Church of Christ. In addition to her daughter , survivors include another daughter, Mrs. William L. ( Betty Jeanne) Czonka, West Leechburg; a son Robert C. Mosser, Charleston, S.C. : nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Clarence ( Sarah M. ) Lint, Vanderbilt. Mrs Mosser was preceded in death by her husband , Harold F. Mosser, a grand daughter, her parents, and four brothers Clarence R., Robert O., Roy D. and George F. Boyer, Sr. Funeral services were held in the Galley Funeral Home, Dawson.
