Hi All

Today I am sending along a message I got from Connie Hulse on Friday. I meant to include it in last night's update but forgot to and the information is too good to just not pass on. I think you'll like hearing more about the project site as well as the culture there. Also, I've asked Dr. Carlson to explain what happened to Woody with a little more detail since I am not the only person (I hope) who doesn't understand all the implications of a pulmonary embolism. I'll send more as I get more....

Subject: Hi there,

Hi there Lynda,

Steve Baumann, Phil Yakligian, and myself went to the hospital this afternoon to see Woody. Jim Hulse stayed at the site as security man doesn't come to the site till after 5 or so. Tom had left this morning at 6 to take Jim Needham to the airport, he had commitments that just couldn't be changed. Woody seemed to be in pretty good spirits, and thinks he doesn't need to be there. What I saw was a man who really loves the Lord and doesn't want to let the Lord down and admit he is too sick to continue on working. A man who is too worried about getting the site completed more than his own health. To me he looked extremely tired. His breathing seemed shallow and short, like he needed to take a big deep breath. He is not to lift his head up and of course not get out of bed or do anything.

We were told by several people that the Doctor said if he hadn't been so physically fit chances are he would have not survived. The are giving him a drug that will hopefully dissolve the clots. We are unsure at this time if he has problems other than the blood clots. We hear also heart problems then no heart problems. One thing for sure he needs prayer.

As of a few days ago (the 20th of September) Jim Hulse and son Christopher are in this country illegally. We have not gotten our temporary resident visa's yet so keep this in your prayers.

We have started homeschooling thanks to Jim Needham bring over the starting books I ordered and had shipped to him. Cayla age 7 has been attending Estonian school here for the most part and loves every minute of it. She will continue to do her other American lessons.

Just a few things for your info that reminds us of how different cultures are. Things we take for granted back in the states

When some one has a birthday..........man, woman or child they get flowers from everyone.
Our family here has had 3 birthdays and yes both the boys and then today Jim all have received many flowers. I think a 1st for all of them.

Today when we went to the hospital we had to take our shoes off to go in to see Woody.

As you could tell from Jim's details of Aare's funeral it was really different. When they opened the casket back up at the cemetery it was very hard on everyone. Also so many people took lots and lots of pictures of the whole funeral, several even took video's of the whole thing. And then once he was buried many families took family portraits at the gravesite.

Another thing is the stop and go lights are really different. A person feels like they are on a race track as before the stop lights turn green they turn yellow 1st...........to let the driver know its almost time to gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I find it is easier.

Free or close to free health care for anyone under 18.

Also all new drivers for there 1st 2 years of driving must have in there front window of there car they are driving a huge green maple leaf, to warn others "look out" I new at this.

Heat not turned on until yesterday as Tiit say it wasn't cold enough. 54 in our room several mornings.

I would also like to clarify our family to you. We both have 2 more sons in Indiana. (also a grandson who will turn 1 October 1st And yes 3 children here. (yours-mine-ours)

And they don't distinguish genders here when talking.....no he or she.

Well today the electric was finally turned on at the site...........no more running the generator to run the tower lights at night. No more 15-20 dollars American money in fuel every night.

So that is all from this end..........will keep you posted

Good night
Connie

So glad you are keeping people informed. We still could use prayer for several things.

At this time we have no word on our resident visa's.. Jim and Christopher are here illegally. I know Christopher could not make it long on bread and water .........especially at his age. :)

Also Katrinne, (sp) Katie's little friend, was coming down the steps at her apartment complex to spend the night here with us, (Cayla) here in Kavastu and she tripped. She hobbled out to the car, we didn't look at it right away as she said she was ok. Then we went to the seminary to see Mare for a minute, she opted to wait in the car. When I got back in the car I asked how it was, she said still hurt. I looked at it and saw it was swollen pretty bad. Philip looked at it then and we decided she needed to have her mom decide what to do but we thought she needed to go to the hospital and have it checked. She wanted us to take her so she could still come back to the dairy with us. Talk about broken hearted......Hers and mine. So to make a long story short her ankle is broken and she will be in a cast for 6-8 weeks and off of school for at least 2. Talk about a brave little girl, she had a few tears in her eye when she came down but for how swollen it was I would still be in tears.....

Love your Sister in Christ,
Connie

~~ Email from Dr. Carlson

A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot that forms in the leg and travels up to
the heart and is pumped into the lung where it blocks off some of the lung
arterial system. It literally causes this part of the lung to die. If it is
large like into the artery of both lungs, the person obviously dies but if
smaller, only a part of the lung system dies and the person is left with
whatever lung he has left. He could be OK or he could be chronically short
of breath. A person can usually do without a whole lung and do OK but if
there is more damage than one lung, even a healthy person like Woody could be
limited in activity. So we are not only praying for his recovery from this
acute injury and risk to his life, but we are praying that there will be no
aftermath to the embolism. This could be as serious as a heart attack and
cause instant death if a large blood clot blocked the whole pulmonary artery.
The person would breathe, but no oxygen would get into the blood.

I think that just about covers it. They will anticoagulate him so that no
new softer clots will form. These are the ones that travel, and the older
clots will stick to the vein walls over about a week's time and not be able
to travel. The lung will heal with good supportive therapy. Woody is not
out of the Woods yet!! Keep praying for him and Rosie his wife for strength.
Woody said when he went into the hospital, "I'm ready to go, Jim" and I am
confident that he is...

May God bless all of you who are praying and thank
you for your support of our team in Estonia.

Your friend and brother,
Jim Carlson

Well that's all for now. I'm sure I'll have more later and will continue to update you. Please continue to pray for Woody and the entire project.

Blessings
