Courtney Maxwell, Poet

(city&state) Tampa Fl.33615
(e.mail address) [email protected]
(affiliations/organizations) Presently uninvolved in any. Former Creative writing student at Blake High School for the arts, and member of the writers club at the same school.
(contemporary poets important to respondent) Mostly I read my friends' poetry although with the help of the internet I have discovered a whole new world.
(poets of yesteryear important to respondent) While I enjoy many poets of the past, I can't presently remember my favorite poem, or its author.

(tastes in poetry) I like all forms of poetry as far as reading goes. When I write I like to use free form. My writing is extremely blunt usually. I get tired of romantic poems and only like them if the poet has found a way to make such an old used topic new and interesting. I particularly like poems dealing with real topics that aren't often talked about. When reading poetry I don't look for a certain technique or form. I'll just pick up a book and start reading. I like the envelope technique the best. I like the emphasis on what is going on.

(impression of contemporary poetry) It is going better then some of the "yesteryear" poetry, not so confined and stuffy. I think it's good to experiment and try to advance poetry while still having respect for the old poetry and poets and using their wisdom of the art to guide you.
