Harland Ristau, Poet

A retired art teacher, Ristau spent his final years with his wife Jean at 3955 North murray, Shorewood, WI. He was born 22 October 1924 in Milwaukee nd eventually earned a B.S. in education. He had two children, Gambit Ristau and Shelley Ristau-Brannan. He died of cancer at home with his wife and two sisters present on 9 July 2005.

As a poet, he's been influenced, he said, by Whitman and John Cage. When asked to name his ten favorite living poets, he answered that he didn't know any. He didn't consider either the subject matter of his poems or their technique important, nor did he feel he could answer any question about what he tried for in his poetry, or what went on in it.

Over five hundred of his poems have gotten published over the past forty years.
