How I Feel About Being a Writer
I consider myself a writer, but not a great one. I must admit, its pretty hard to come up with a good, and catchy thesis paragraph to captivate the readers attention.
Many writing assignments Ive written focus on my new life in America and the old one in Guatemala. I have learned this are some of the kind of essays readers are interested in. They want to get to know the person who is writing. As students often focus on class subjects. I think this is because it is one of the reasons I do okay in the essays I write. The subject doesnt interest me therefore I write an essay that isnt interesting and the reader becomes bored. I think if teachers would give us the chance to express the way we feel about the things that are going on right now or other subjects that affect our everyday life we would far better.
As a writer I have trained myself to focus on good spelling, punctuation and grammar. However, Ive still found myself making to many errors. I took this course because I had a strong feeling it would help me become a strong writer. I expect to learn how to make writing essays an easier task than it has been lately. In most of my English classes Ive learned definitions and how to spell new vocabulary words. However, my greatest challenge has been grammar. I have been in this country for 8 years and I still fail to do well in that subject. I have been given English lab this semester and to my surprise I have been learning many things about grammar. I only hope it helps me do much better in my essays this semester.
It hasnt been an easy trip here in the United States. One thing that has help me is trying harder. I did have to go to ESL when I came here. To everyones surprise I was out of there at the end of two years. In that time could speak, write and understand everything pretty well. When I was in Elementary school I didnt like to write but who really does at that age? Then when I came to Weber I began reading mysteries and adventures that really captured my imagination. I never thought a writer could express his/herself like that. Since then Ive really liked writing and admire what writers have to offer.
I did not take this class only because I heard it would look good on your transcript, but because I hope to improve in writing my essays.
