When you see me and him, he with hair to the ground
You smile and tell me that love I have found
When you see me with him, he with a smile of kindness
You laugh and you say that our love must be timeless
But when we are three, not one of us missin'
You turn your face 'way and you say you won't listen
So what if I love them, so what if we're happy
Does three of us really make our life so crappy
You look at my life and you call me a whore
Though my name you have never asked of before
I don't fuck every Tom, Dick and Harry
But disdain is burden that Im forced to carry
I've never felt glee much like this before
To have of mine two men that which I adore
You say "that man and that girl are ok by me
"She can love she and he can love he"
Love turned their hearts away from the norm
To live the life of which they were born
But you don't call them fag you open your heart
You accept that they wish never to part
So why does my happiness fill you with rage
Is it because our love we refuse to cage
You've loved many women throughout your lifetime
Did ever two of them come at the same time
Two came to me, I won't turn one away
Hasn't love ever ask for your life to sway
In the end I realize I don't give a shit
If you look at my life and you think it's the pit
I've made my choice to turn my back on you
If you refuse to accept what am I to do
There are no other words of which I can say
Your friendship must be the price that I have to pay
This poem was my attempt to write a black beret-poetry slam style poetry
The title "Three (Safe and Cheery) comes from a song in Company called Side by Side where they say "One's impossible, two is dreary,/Three is company, safe and cheery."
