Entry for October 16, 2006
It sure was nice while it lasted...
The Chief Lake trip is over. The extended turnover, giant-sized winds, algae blooms, mud bogs popping up in 20+ feet of water and the Big Chip down 4 feet sure didn't help the cause much.
Water temps hovered near 60 degrees when we got there Oct 1 and were down to the lower 50s by Oct 8. Today they are mid-40s after the low-80 degree air temps that opened the month gave way to snowstorms by mid-month.
Turnover has finally become history and the return of fishing musky seems to be a reasonable choice once again. Jerkbaits of all varieties, from glider-style to dive & rise have been seeing the most fish. Big Games and Suicks seem to be most popular. I've also been hearing that suckers have been getting a lot of action now.
The biggest fish of the season have yet to make an appearance. Hope one's in your net soon.
