Cricket News- January 2008 Pakistan will be hosting Zimbabwe in mid-January. The tour will go ahead as planned despite the condition in Pakistan. Pakistan will have the chance to test out new players in hopes of doing well against the Aussies, who visit Pakistan in March 2008. New Zealand are taking on Bangladesh in a Test series. They will have no problem closing out the test as Bangladesh have performed very poorly thus far. SP Fleming scored his 43rd half-century but couldn't reach his 10th century as he was out for 87. Shaun Pollock retired from international cricket. He called it quits at the age of 34. South Africa defeated the West Indians relatively easy in the test series. He's 40 years of age and he has played for South Africa from 1993 until his retirement in 2004. He brings a lot of experience to India. ICL has been fairly successful. With big names like Brian Lara, Inzamam Ul-haq, Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle, Chris Harris, they will continue to gain popularity going into 2008. It looks as though they will be well solidified come 2009. Sanath Jaysuriya retired from test cricket last December. He finished with a batting average of 40 runs. At age 38, he will continue to play ODI's going into 2008 so he hasn't called it entirely quits yet. |

| Saeed Anwar is a former cricketer who played for Pakistan from 1989 to 2003. For the majority of his career, he was an opener and excited the crowds where ever he went. The biggest moment of his career occurred on May 21, 1997 when he scored 194 against India in an ODI tournament. In the late nineties, he continued to be very successful and became one of the best batsmen in the world. His Test average of 45 and ODI average of 39 were very impressive. He took a break from cricket in August 2001 when family tragedy struck. He would return to cricket in June 2002 but at that point, he became a shell of former self. He wasn't scoring many runs and he appeared to be aging fast. Entering World Cup 2003, he had not scored a century in almost 3 years. He ended up being Pakistan's best batsman in the tournament. He scored a memorable century against India in a losing effort. His last match was a wash-out against Zimbabwe on March 4, 2003. After Pakistan was eliminated rather quickly, PCB decided to head in a new direction and sacked majority of their senior players. Anwar was never selected again. |
