My Trip to Turkey

Latest News
I haven't written up a rant on this site for quite some time. The reason being that I went to Turkey for four weeks from Sunday the 7th of September to Sunday the 5th of October 2003. It was great to see all my relatives again. The last time I went to Turkey was in 1996. It was an interesting experience to live in a different country for a period of time.
I visited many places there. I went to the Gallipoli Peninsula that overlook the Dardenelles, the strech of water that connects the Mediterrenean Sea to the Black Sea. It was also the scene of the famous Gallipoli battles of World War One, whereby Britain, Australia, New Zealand and France tried to overrun Turkey just to create a supply route to Russia. I also visited the Saint Sophia mosque and Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque) in Istanbul. I also visited the city of Bursa. I stayed at my grandmother's house (with my mother and little brother who came here from Australia with me) at Istanbul.
It appears that I should be hating something by now. See? I've forgotten how to type up these rants... Well, at the house I was staying in, the only running water was a tap in the kitchen and a tap outside. The toilet had to be "flushed" by pouring buckets of water down the bowl. I had to have showers by pouring buckets of EXTREMELY hot water over me. Ironically, that same water had to be heated over a small fire in the backyard.
Believe me, Turkey was VERY BORING! I nearly died from boredom over there. All the tourists say that Turkey is a beautiful country, but they've only seen the tourist destinations (those two mosques I mentioned earlier are an example)! Most of Turkey is just a dump! Seriously! Just drive around Istanbul in a taxi for half an hour and then see for yourself!
However, it wasn't Turkey itself that I hated the most. It was mainly the trip to and back from Turkey that annoyed me the most.
To get to Istanbul by plane from where I live (Melbourne, Australia), first you fly to Singapore. This takes about seven hours. Then from Singapore, I flew to Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates. This takes about six hours. From here, it takes no more than five hours to reach Istanbul.
Why does sitting down all day on a plane make you more tired that running a marathon? I mean, you don't do anything on a plane, so why do you still get tired? That really annoyed me.
I'm sure that just about everybody hates airline food. No wonder- it's not fresh. The airline first cooks the food on the ground, and then they microwave it on the plane! That stuff made me sick; in fact, it STILL makes me sick (maybe it's because I ate blue cheese, which is made by injecting penicillin or bacteria into fresh cheese).
Luckily, they had a wide selection of movies, television programs and games to play on the plane, so at least I wouldn't be BORED! I watched a couple of movies like The Matrix Reloaded, Terminator 3 and Pirates of the Carribean. One thing that annoyed me was that everytime
the captain or a member of the cabin crew made an .........
