Why does Coca Cola insist on raising the cost of a phone to this insane extent? Well, either to make a huge profit or to cut some losses. What loses I hear you ask? Coca Cola is a billion dollar enterprise. It can't possible have losses. Well, you have a point there. It isn't Coca Cola that has the losses, but the people who make the phone and those who sell it. I mean, the phone is horrible. The buttons are too small, it has annoying alarms that go off at the start of every hour, it has one of those annoying phone dictionary things that create havoc when you try to write an SMS or an address book entry. It isn't worth the bother, and this is true for both me and the consumer market.
Mobile phones has a reputation of having very dodgy deals. One case that comes to my mind was when phones with colour screens were first introduced. Many of the plans with them were around $100. Very stupid indeed. And then there are those plans with the tightest and strictest call limits, and call times. And some people wonder why pay phones are still in existence.
While Coca Cola has a taste that can not be beaten by any other competitor, its taste in competitions is somthing that has to go back to the drawing board. While I now that it is a buisness and that money has to be made, at the end of the day, there is a sense that there is always a limit to how much you can squeeze the penny. In the (unlikely) chance that anyone from Coca Cola management sees this, please note that I am not writing this to damage your credibility so that you lose out to competitors like Pepsi. All I'm saying is that this is what I think about your competition. I'm sure others think the same way I do about this. It's just that, to my knowledge, I'm the only one withe the courage (and the time) to post it on the Internet.
