| Latest News | Now this may shock most of my readers, but it must be known before starting this rant that I study Philosophy as a school subject. I know that you are shocked; you'd never have guessed in a million years that I would do something like that. Well, it happens, so get over it. But luckily, Philosophy has its advantages. Or at least what I thought was an advantage at first. Every student knows that an excursion, ANY EXCURSION, is welcomed as a break from the routine and dreary aspect of school work. Sure, they sometimes don't care about the purpose of an excursion, but going on one can have benefits. For example, on the 22nd of July 2003, my Philosophy class was to go on an excursion to an all girls school (which shall remain anonymous for it may create dangerous and unnecessary tensions) for a Philosophy Conference. Now I knew that I wouldn't have cared less about this, in fact, if I had a choice, I wouldn't have gone. But I couldn't stay at home, no, I was stupid enough to have told my parents about the excursion, so they would have forced me to go anyway. I could have wagged (played hookie) but it wasn't worth it. I was just choiceless. I had to go. But I could see an up side to it; at least I got to miss out on a Maths test I didn't even study for! I came early to the school almost an hour early for some reason, so I decided to take a stroll around the buildings surrounding the school (the school was sitting right in the heart of Melbourne). I did this for about 20 minutes before I decided to go in. Anyway, I saw some of my friends, who were in my class, go in anyway, so I decided to follow them. I missed them by about 10 metres as I walked through the door of the school. As I walked through the foyer, I couldn't see them. It was just like a game of hide and seek. Where did they go off to? Well I hadn't the time to play their game, so I decided to go into the hall, where the conference would be held. But I didn't know where it was (of course I didn't, it wasn't my school). So I decided to ask a teacher waiting in the foyer. But as I was approaching her, she walked away with some other female students. This was surprising. I was as stranded as Robinson Cruesoe! Then I felt isolated. All the female students were walking past, looking at me. I felt paranoia. I was about ti yell out "What's the matter with you lot? Haven't you seen a student from another school before, ha? Or is it because I'm male? Are you all lesbians?" Then just when my mouth opened, someone DID tell me where the hall was. So I went quick smart. I found my friends all sitting in the front row. We were the only ones sitting down. There were other female students in the hall with us, putting the final touches on the hall. I was staggered by the quotes on the walls that were made by famous philosophers. Stuff like "God is dead", "hell is other people" and "religion is the opiate of the masses". I was about to leave in fright, when we were actually told to leave by one of the girls. She said that they had to organise some more stuff, and that because they'll bother us, it was best to leave. Well, how can ...... |
