Introduction into Linux

What is Linux?

Linux is a modern operating system. This means that it runs on 32-bit architecture, uses preemptive multitasking, protected memory, supports multiple users, and has support for networking. Linux runs all the applications a Unix server system runs!

Reliability

Since the source code to Linux is open and widely distributed, Linux has been thorougthly debugged. Systems that use protected memory and preemptive multitasking are more stable. Protected memory prevents an error from bringing down an entire system. Its multitasking prevents an application to hold the system. You can leave Linux on for MONTHS without rebooting it! Unlike like some versions of Windows, Linux does not crash while handling multi-tasks. Linux does have only a few viruses that people hardly could get.

Cost

Since Linux is open source, it is free and may be sold. Linux can be downloaded from any Linux distribution site. You may find Linux distributions in stores at low prices. Linux is cheaper than Windows and Mac OS but is much more reliable.
