The LTE Lite does not come with sound, it only has a system speaker. In the late 80s, Microsoft was able to map out the system speaker so it could play WAV sounds only, for events or the sound recorder on the windows 3.1 operating system. I personally find it anoying sometimes because if you want clear sounds, you disable the interupts and you cant do anything till the sound has finished. If you would still like it, you can download a zipped version at the link below.
My Compaq LTE Lite 4/25 has a track ball mounted on the screen. Here is a link to the track ball driver for the windows 3.1 operating system. Just unzip to a 3.5" floppy disk and then from the file manager in windows 3.1, click on install.exe and follow the onscreen instructions.

I have only had two actual problems with this laptop. The first problem was that the lever for the power switch broke due to the plastic going off because of its age. The symptoms of the problem is that when you plug it into the mains, the battery light will come on and then go out as usual when it checks the state of charge in the main battery. You try to turn it on but nothing happens. To test if it is the same fault as what I had, remove the keyboard surround and press the switch manually. If the system turns on, look at the little lever on the underside of the keyboard to see if it is still there. I fixed this problem by glueing the lever back in position and re-enforcing the lever with thin strips of plastic from a disgarded food rapper.
The Little Lever.
I have been told as I have not experienced it my self. When the cmos battery which keeps the memory of the internal clock and the bios settings dies, It can give the same symptoms as above but if you shove it in a expansion base, it will power up. I am not sure how that is possible but alot of people are saying it. I cant try it my self as I dont have an expansion base.
My second problem was that the main battery pack stopped taking a charge. I did what compaq told me to do and discharge the battery pack and then put it on charge to get rid of any memory effect on the battery. So i discharged the pack, and now it only goes up to 5% charge and wont go any higher even if you leave it on charge for a month. I have dismantled the pack to see if I can replace the cells but, the cost of the ten cells seperateley cost more than if I was to buy a new pack. The size of the cells are 17.2 X 66 mm, the type reference is 7/5AF. The prices that i have personally seen are about £8.93 each from a company called Maplin. A company called ACTIVE DATA are selling the packs for about £75 plus P&P. I have been considering converting the casing so that it can take the AA sized Lithium batteries which are 1.3Amps, it wont last as long, maybe just over an hour compared to the 2 hours by the proper pack. The case itself is glued around the two sides and the back. BE VERY CAREFUL ! Do not damage the contacts at the back when spliting the case.
