COMPANY 13
Company 13 exists as a forum for its company members
to explore their art by building a theatre company dedicated to story and
character. Working in an environment of drive, commitment, and aesthetic
integrity, Company 13 creates theatre on its own terms for any audience
wishing to engage in the experience.
Company 13 is committed to producing classical,
contemporary, and original works in new and exciting ways. Using
progressive ideas, and unconventional methods, with a major focus on story
and character, Company 13 gives actors and directors, artists and designers
and everyone in between a new outlet for their skills. Audiences
are encouraged to enjoy what they see at a ‘13’ production. The artists
have a true passion for what they do, and Company 13 enables them to create.
In late October of 2000, the company was formed
with the idea that we, as artists, needed an outlet through which we were
able to create theatre with no parameters. The idea of a utopian
theatre company in which no one person could overrule the group seemed
the direction to travel. Nine months later Company 13 opened its
first show to the public. William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's
Dream ran for two weeks from August 9th to August 18th.
The company has already set a new standard for
Shakespearean production according to Liminal Theatres artistic director
Joel Mason, “…Go and see this production. Their innocence will charm
you, their talent will surprise you, and their production just might change
your mind about Shakespeare. In fact it just might change your mind
about theatre.”
This summer the company is expanding their repertoire
by producing four shows: William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Eric
Bogosian’s Scenes from the New World, and two original one man shows,
Paul Diem’s The New America, and Unloved from Jeff Miller.
