Text Box: The U.N. forces were almost defeated.  They were pushed back to the city of Pusan.  In Sept. 1950, the U.N. fought back by landing troops in Inchon.  This surprised the Communists and the U.N. pushed them all the way to the Chinese border.  They almost reunited Korea. The U.N.  wanted a Democratic gov’t.

Text Box: In June 1950, North Korean troops, who were Communists, launched a surprise attack on the United Nations troops with supplies and help from the Soviet Union.  They wanted to reunite Korea and create a Communist Country.  They almost beat the U.S. led U.N. forces.

 

 

                                                                                      

 

 

 

 

 

Text Box: Just as the U.N. forces were about to win the Korean War, China surprised everyone, and decided to enter the war.  China was a Communist country and wanted its own buffer zone between it and the democratic country of Japan. China sent in troops and pushed the U.N. forces back south.

Text Box: In 1951, a truce was called between the Communists of the North and the U.N.  In 1953, Korea was divided into Communist North Korea and Democratic South Korea along the 38th latitude line.  This remains today; both countries are technically at war.  The U.S. has over 10,000 troops in South Korea today.
