Announcement: Available Kittens! Born 5/28/2008 1 Solid white female with blue eyes. Another litter on the way. See the kitten page.
CompactKatz Munchkins is a small home based cattery located in the Manzano Foothills of Albuquerque, NM. We raise a limited number of Munchkin kittens from TICA registered lines. Our kittens are bred for good health, coloring, and loving disposition. They are raised in our home as part of the family, with free reign of the house. All cats are FIV and FELV negative.
What is a Munchkin? A Munchkin is breed of cat in which the long bones of the legs are greatly shortened by a naturally occurring genetic mutation. The same genetic mutation is found in the dachshund and corgi in the dog world. The mutation does not effect any other part of the cats body. This means only its legs are shorter and the body is not effected by the dwarfing. A Munchkin is the size of a small alley cat, some are smaller. A Munchkin can run, climb, and jump-though not as high as his regular legged equivalent. Does a Munchkin need any special care opposed to a regular cat? The only special treatment or care a munchkin needs is that it must ALWAYS be inside. It is too risky to let a Munchkin outside because it can not jump and get over fences if chased by a predator. Munchkins are obviously different in looks and a Munchkin outside may be cat-napped!
