The poster of the squib on tax sales of homes makes an extraordinarily good point. In today's mortgage industry, when the originator of the loan nearly never holds it to term and where the business of collecting the monthly payments can often be divorced from the holding of the note, there are often changes in the corporate management of such functions- acquisition of one company by another or, more recently, the failure of one of the companies. In each such transfer it is possible through normal unintentional snafus for the holder or servicer of the mortgage to lose contact info for the homeowner, or the escrowed tax account info may not transfer. So in some instances a notice may have been sent to a wrong address, etc. I have seen situations exactly as described, fortnately not to me. But you always should check, and check on your friends.
