glass and garbage in alley

Each place where the garbage truck stops is
marked with a small pile of glass and garbage
and puddle of putrid water. I don't remember
this always being the case. Did the city buy
new garbage trucks recently?

The 43rd St Block Party is set for this Saturday. One of the events
that we have scheduled is a static display of the MPD Helicopter. It
will be landing on the field at Janney Elementary School on Saturday
afternoon. So if you see it flying low this saturday you know why. If
you have any questions feel free to contact me via email at
mmuzzatti@aol.com

Have a Safe Summer!

We have had excellent results with Renzo Stucchi. We first used him in
the mid-90s after soliciting bids from a few different firms. We have
a painted brick home; he pressure-washed the masonry, used a masonry
primer/sealer before painting, and scraped-primed-painted the wood
trim. He also removed the storm windows and cleaned them, and repaired
several cracked panes in our upstairs mullioned windows. We have
subsequently used him to strip wallpaper and repaint a couple of
bedrooms and to repair/repaint damaged plaster in a bathroom. His
phone number is 301-963-9716.

Thanks, Rick Dulaney

broken glass in alleys

Once again I had to steer my dogs and myself around patches of broken glass in the alleys near my house following the recyclers' visit yesterday morning. I am writing again to Gilberto Solano, with copies to Mary Cheh and William Howland (Director, DC Dept of Public Works), and urge as many residents as possible to do so, and to include the exact coordinates where the patches are located.

In past years I noticed occasional small patches of glass shards in the
alleys, and would even carry a small brush and pan with me on my dog
walks in order to clean them up. The situation is now way beyond
the capabilities of one woman with a small brush and pan.

The purpose of putting out items for recycling is to have them properly
disposed of by those who are paid to do so. A situation in which
bottles put out for proper disposal are not taken away but left
smashed beside the recycling can, creating a serious hazard, is unacceptable and surely defeats
the whole purpose of the recycling operation.

Can someone recommend a home security system they have and like? Also
the address or website where I can contact the system.
