Best Buys charges 15% to restock items in packaging.....

Just an FYI that came to my attention recently.... Best Buy charges a 15% restocking fee for
opened, returned items (a $200 item returned will cost you $30., if my math is correct) --
even if the item is in all of its original packaging.

If anyone has had any experiences with their returns, others may like to know. What about
other electronic stores?

check the web address to snopes, below:
www.snopes.com/politics/business/restock.asp

note that it is dated May 2008

Yesterday I bought an expensive DLP projector for a friend. I asked specifically about
returns & was told that if it was UNopened, there would be no restocking fee. He pointed
out that no one wants to buy boxes that have been opened (which I understand ... up to a
point). The item will not be returned, so I haven't tested his "no fee"statement.
I only purchased there because other places didn't have what was needed in stock.

The "snopes article" isn't clear to me as to whether or not the item had actually been
opened.
